The year was 1999. Greco was still on Zero, Muska was king and Jake thought the world was going to end on New Years.

Good times.


We never got too much Muska for some reason. Max Schaaf later told me that Muska
had told him he thought I was ‘weird.’ Sorry, homie.


Dorian Tucker was spooky years before it became fashionable. Front blunt before the graveyard shift.


I got to go to the big Europe contests that summer, back when people used to go to those things. Here’s Ethan evading security with an unauthorized backstage ollie.


Still in his Turtle Boy phase, Reynolds was about to bust out of his shell in a big way. This was at Radlands in the UK.


Al Partanen and Peter Hewitt and a bunch of bros has a cool pad in Clairemont. They eventually drained the pool, too.


Greco tried this so many times, but to no avail. There’s a very good chance that Atiba, Swift, Ortiz, Ballard, Theo Hand and maybe even Kosick all have this exact same photo, too.




This was right when Jamie decided he wanted to get back in the mag. It’s been relatively smooth sailing ever since.


Adrian Lopez was on fire at this time. We shot an entire interview in a week. Which might seem incredible until you remember that the interviews in those days were, like, six pages. Still, he was killing it.

After several years of sleeping under a card table at Tracker, peeing in the water fountain and what not, Kristian Svitak finally got his big break on Black Label. Look at that impressive stable of sponsors he’s got going. Nice one, Svitak.


Aaron Astorga blasts big over the hip at the new Vista park where, coincidentally, years later Slash would lose his virginity in the boy’s bathroom. They recently dozed the whole place. Ahh, memories...
