Friends Don't Let Friends Crab Grab

I shot this photo of Brandon Gochanour at this year’s PHX Am contest. At the time, I had no idea who this eccentric-lookin’ guy with a video camera was, but he looked goofy enough to get in the mag. Through the miracles of social networking, he tracked me down about a week ago and we became Facebook friends. He’s posted half-a-dozen videos a day every day this week. Maybe some are reposts, but all of them have been pretty funny. Here’s a little Q&A with the filmer, host, and most of the main characters of GochTV. —Joe Hammeke
When did you start skating? I hear you used to ride for Dogtown.
I started skating in 1985. I rode for Dogtown from 1987 to 1989. I was also sponsored by Hosoi Rockets wheels at that time.
When did you start making videos?
I started making videos about two years ago. It all started when I got on Facebook, and I couldn’t get my jokes across through the computer.
What camera do you use?
I started with a Kodak $100 dollar digital camera and made about 700 videos with that. Then I bought a Sony dcr-sr100 camera from my homie. Muthafuckas be broke nowadays, and I’m stoked cause I got it for $300 bucks. He barely used it.
What do you like to film?
I like to film GochTV’s twisted humor, skatin,’ and b-boyin’—I prefer the old-school style of both skatin’ and breakin.’
Do you always tripod cam and film yourself?
I film on a tripod a lot of the time. I even used to set it on books at the beginning.
Where do you get inspiration?
My ideas come from life experiences, and just straight twisting the shit out of the meaning of stuff. Especially the music in the vids.
Who’s the breakdancer in the videos?
That’s me of course!
When was the last time you shaved?
I trim the goat, but I haven’t shaved it bald in years! I’ve pretty much always had a goatee in one style or another.
When was the last time you did acid?
Shit, it’s been awhile, but I’ve eaten sheets.
How often do you smoke pot?
Why? Did I win a lifetime supply and you need to know how much to deliver?
Do you have a day job?
GochTV. I’m on disability. I went insane from 2003 to 2005, straight schizophrenic! But I’ve kept it clean from the hard shit since.
