Title: Do metal parks suck?
Post by: Olinaj on August 13, 2008, 11:24:54 AM
I get so desperate sometimes for skating that I go to a shitty metal park, and everything is covered by wasps, water, and on hot days, is so hot to the touch that you can get 3rd degree burns. The only thing worth skating is the mini ramp, which is always wet because the douchebag gardeners keep the sprinklers on all the time.

Hahaha, I'm an old fucker, but damn, you have transitions to ride and your whining? My advice is to quit skateboarding all together.

I'm curious as to who in their right mind would answer "no" to the question posed in the thread.

Man, have you ever tried to skate wet, hot, metal trannys?
Not worth it. I'd rather skate in my garage.

Umm, no, can't say I've ever ridden a "wet, hot tranny".

i said yes and no, 'cause i would have killed to get a skatepark in my hometown when i was younger. when we got one, it was metal but i had never skated transition before and it was like the most awesome thing ever.

Yup. MN had the PISS ramps when I was younger, but that was in Minneapolis and I had no car. Janesville MN had a killer halfpipe we would session in the 80's and I belive Dan Jackson bought it but never set it up.  Otherwise we had a couple of halfpipes with fucked trannys in Mankato, but it was something. You had to ride it.

Ok, ok, I fixed my "spelling" error.
I haven't ridden a wet, hot tranny either. And I wouldn't like to.

By the way, I went to the sucky metal park yesterday, and I only had enough time to land one BS shove it on the banks, before my brother got heat stroke from being next to the Really fucking hot ramps.

Only thing bad about ez7 is that if you bail on the metal, you only have half a sec to get up without burning.

I skated one every day for four years before moving to Toronto. So the ramps hot? Big fucking deal.

yes they get hot, and yes theyre slippery when wet, but would you rather be riding a cool, dry parking lot?

True, but you also miss out on the urethane on concrete screech. I love that sound.

For the past 5 years, I lived in Northern Vermont and my only option in the winter was Talent Skatepark, an indoor park in Burlington.  It's only 10,000 sq. feet, and it is mostly metal, with the exception of the skatelite bowl.  It's got everything you need, even for the tranny skaters.  That shit is so fun because it's so slippery and sketchy and tightly packed together.  Some of my favorite sessions consisted of flying around going as fast as I could, dogding little kids, thinking quickly, and just squeezing every little bit of fun out of that place.  Life is what you make it and the same goes for skating!  I personally think that metal is just as fast if not faster than concrete.

Whatever, skateboarding is fun, no matter the surface.

Concrete is awesome, however, supporting a local business and friends is also.  There are several DIY projects happening in VT right now, but when there's 3 feet of snow on the ground and it's cold as fuck out side, you go and shred where everybody knows your name and there's a bowl, mini, micro, pool cope, and a "steet course".

The bottom line is that you make due with what you can.

Of course a concrete park done by a design build skater run company is best, but there are some fun metal parks in Norther Vagina. Who dosn't like riding vagina ???

I haven't been to one park that has anything resembling a pole jam, that thing looks fun.

At the risk of sounding like a dickhead...  You fuckers are all spoiled brats (I mean that in a good way).  When I started skating I would have given my left nut for a steel park 'cause there wasn't shit around my area.  Parks were non-existant.  My friend and I built a wooden half pipe with a masonite surface.  People thought we were nuts and we had zero support from our community.

Be thankful for what ya got.

P.S.  Yes, we had to skate uphill both ways to the halfpipe, through ten feet of snow...  AND WE LIKED IT!

yeah, but when communities spend hundreds of thousands of dollars of total garbage, it's a problem.
prefab skatepark companies need to be run right out of buisness and off the planet.

Too True.  The Town of Webster (about 1/2 hour north of me) built this "26,000 square foot, state of the art, skatepark"  for like over $200,000.

While it is better than nothing, they could have had something really fucking cool for that amount of money.

Can you say "Rip Off"?  I knew you could.

They didn't build that park for 200g.  They built it for 45,000 and pocketed the other 155.
