Title: How To's Days
Post by: krusher on May 17, 2011, 09:47:02 PM
I’m about to get off work, I’m in the middle of studying for finals and I need to let go. I need a beer and I need one fast

John Lupfer How To's Days: The Renegade (http://vimeo.com/21838012)

Where I come from they called them Cavemans but either way I can only do them when I’m wasted.  Chicks dig’em

It's funny 'cause I can't tell I'm wasted till I can do a renegade... I've been trying all night

I can do them now... It's a blast...

Bob you really need to have a talk with the quote box guy...

As for the fs r&r I just can't twist my body that way yet. I can get my weight on my toes but I just can't get the windup right. I did get pivot on a spot that I've been too scared to try for 11 years now... so that was kinda cool

Title: Re: How To's Days
Post by: bob on May 25, 2011, 11:40:36 AM
i think i ought to fire my quote box guy haha. well what i meant to say in that failed post is that i've always known drinking a beer that way as being called shotgunning.

p.s. i've been having a hard time with my rock&rolls as well, that trick is fun though

Title: Re: How To's Days

That method of consuming beer is known as 'shotgunning' and has been since forever.  Anyone calling it something else is pulling your leg.

Drinking the beer is shotgunning. Shoving your thumb through a can is a renegade.

Much like grabbing your board in a different spot changes the name of the air you caught

BEER FIGHT!!!

I'm able to get my whole body to hang "in" on this trick but I can't get that much pressure on my my back toe. I guess it takes more practice or natural talent.

I got over failing on this trick and decided to just do back tail to crail stall and found they were pretty fucking easy. I just want to slide though

I been failing a lot on my trick attempts, I almost got the back tail slide (I need more push on my toe) and the R&R is just a pipe dream.

But here's one kids that I'm sure we can all do!

Those make me feel like I'm gonna fall over backwards, even when I'm leaning forward.

That's why they're perfect for consuming an hour before you skate. Eat one half and your fine, eat one whole and it's bedtime...

And what's this "r&r is a pipedream" business?

That was in reference to this post...
So today is the day I'm gonna really try.

frontside rock n rolls are the worst. i can do them when it's low and steep, can't do them when it's high and shallow. this trick is a sick joke, nothing more.

I tried to do back tails just yesterday for the first time.
It's so weird for me.
Like I would turn my body, push my back foot (toe)and my my front foot would just automatically fly off the board.
Good luck to you guys.

Back tail stall was one of those tricks where I thought "I'll give those a try" and it just worked out fine, but I'm having crazy trouble to get them to slide. Every once and a while I'll get an inch or 2 on a slide but nothing legit (that's what she said).

Work in progress...

I LOVE SKATEBOARDING!!!!

Title: Re: How To's Days
Post by: Bro on June 18, 2011, 10:57:36 AM
Fuck Yea!
Yea I'm just having trouble just trying to get it to slide as well.
Should I apply more  wax or push faster?
Either way, fun ass trick to do.

Title: Re: How To's Days
Post by: susej on June 18, 2011, 07:45:21 PM
Some would say apply more pressure, or more wax, but I find it's just about the speed and line you approach it with. I've done one, where it doesn't budge, then do exactly the same thing a little faster, and with a little more of an angle, and it goes 2 feet.

Title: Re: How To's Days
Post by: bailgun on June 18, 2011, 08:06:28 PM
wax is never the answer, the answer is always to go faster.

I was learning rockn'rolls on my ramp today and the kid I was skating with was like "you've got to slow down". Earlier that morning I read the Taylor Bingaman interview in Thrasher so I was paraphrasing him when I said "I go fast so I don't think too much about it."

It's all about speed. Skate fast or go home!.

My problem is I can't get my feet to cooperate... someday...

hey.... i got a bone to pick with this one.... Truman Hooker How To's Day: Concrete Boob (http://vimeo.com/26927329)
i hate to be a hater, (even though i'm really good at it) but you guys left out some pretty crucial information in this one.... if i was a kid who had never worked with concrete before, and all i had to go on was that how-to, i would most likely fail, and here's why...

1-tarp mixing. a little more info on that would've helped. how much water to how much concrete? what should the consistency of the mix be?
2-rebar. you show that there's a couple sticks in the pile, but never mention it, or what its for.
3-how thick should the crete be? i know from experience that it's gotta be at least 3 inches thick if you want it to last, but the kids who haven't ever done this kind of thing don't.
4-finishing. wood to shape it, magnesium to compress and bring up the cream, and steel to burn it. your tutorial just said "make it smooth." that's not nearly enough info.

5-a big part of concrete work is timing. you gotta wait til the mud is ready to be worked. i've seen so many fucked up spots that got fucked because people overworked the mud.

i don't mean to be so critical, as i think more of these sort of things need to be done, it's just that they need to be done RIGHT.

i like what you guys are doing, and i back anyone trying to get kids motivated to build shit, but you gotta give them all the info they need.

maybe instead of trying to cram all that info into one clip, do a short series on it.
[/me being a dick]

Here's another how to make Bailgun grumpy

Truman Hooker How To's Day: D.I.Y Parking Block Ledge (http://www.vimeo.com/28340331)

What can I say they're skaters not workers. I think that was the first time Truman ever used a hammer drill. It took me forever to get him to stop calling it cement, he calls it concrete in the boob how to. Even the list of instructions on their Vimeo they wrote cement.

That being said it is completely rad that a spot could be made with almost no knowledge on how to. I mean they only brought ONE TROWEL! I'll bring 3 trowels just to fix a crack in the sidewalk (that's what I do for work, I fix things.)

That tarp we used to mix the concrete was a tent that I found in the bushes, it took me forever to convince them to use it... now that's all they use.

Title: Re: How To's Days
Post by: bailgun on August 31, 2011, 02:08:48 PM
that one didn't make me grumpy.... it didn't exactly explain everything, but i think if i was a kid with no experience, and i watched that one, i'd be able to have a decent curb ledge built no problem.

funny about the tarp mixing. it always takes forever to convince people it's the way. then once you talk them into it, they're all about it.

Here's one of me explaining a technique I learned from the WSVT guys

How To's Days: Crack Repair (http://vimeo.com/38442249)

The two part epoxy just seems to last longer then bondo in these situations. Those cracks have stood up to 4 weekends of torture since we've done the repairs and the epoxy is still holding great. I couldn't say the same for bondo. If you are not going to grind it bondo works great.

This is the easiest, cleanest way I know to fix a crack that you intend on torturing.

make a big mess around the cracks. when we have to occasionally reset coping, or pour something new at marginal, we just throw shovelfuls of rubble, dirt, cinderblocks, etc at the bottom of the trannies.

dousing the runup with water works good too.

I know I posted this in the DIY Forum but since it's a How To's Day I'mma post it here too

This is the easiest and fastest way I know how to build a ledge.

HOW TO'S DAYS: PARKING BLOCK LEDGE (http://vimeo.com/41788926)

You might be able to get everything you need to build this for free or cheap if you check you local craigslist (http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites)
free (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/zip/),     garage sales (http://sandiego.craigslist.org/gms/)

You don't have to use the expensive glue that we used, you can buy some $2 tubes and you'll be fine (as long as they say "adhesive" on them.)

JT AULTZ HOW TO'S DAYS: NOSESLIDE POP OVER (http://vimeo.com/42182078)

There you go kids go build something
