Title: New Guy Looking for advice
Post by: XsSpeed on December 13, 2011, 08:01:33 PM
Hey, I'm new to the board.  I didn't see a place to post an intro so I'll do it here.

I'm an old dude that started skating back in 5th grade (1975) and I was reading Thrasher when it was newsprint paper back in High school.  I even had a letter published in 1983 (I think it had a yellow cover).  I had some killer boards that I wish I still had and have no idea what happened to them (I think my mom sold them at yard sales when I went in the navy).  My favorite was my Kryptonics K-beam (my brother's holding it, I have my ptex).

Well anyway, I have a 12 year old son that's into skating and I skate with him.  I still have my last old board I bought in 89 - a Zorlac but I now ride an Alien Workshop that I won from Juice or my Toy Machine.
He took this of me when we were at a park in RI this summer.

Anyway,
My question is: my son wants a video cam for xmas he can record his buddiess street skating with.  Can you guys reccomend a decent one for around 150?

Go Pro is $180 and it's ok. There is a flip camera and a Sony version that are ok too, you just need to get the newer ones that have the stabilization built in. Don't ask any more questions till you Google them please thanks.

Welcome back

I'd recommend looking into used cameras. I got pretty close to snagging a sony vx1000 for 300 bucks a couple years ago, which is an older professional grade camera that was the standard for skateboarding until recently. Craigslist or whatever local swap board you might find could be good. A used camera could potentially be better than a new one at the same price.

Whiterock! I was surprised to see a picture of that place on here. I may or may not have seen you over the summer. My friends and I skated there just about every other day before going to the quarries to do some cliff jumping.

Yea that's a cool little place.  My inlaws live down at weekapaug.  I found it on Concrete Disciples site.  The inlaws bought a winter place in Orlando and we're going there after xmas.  We'll skate there too.  I'm sure I'll be back at white rock this summer in july (after my band tour)
