Title: I need your opinion
Post by: xSkatepunx586 on January 08, 2013, 08:11:18 PM
I need your suggestion: I decided I wanted to buy a new deck because the current one I have is too big and bulky for me. I'm 6'1 and I wear a size 12 and i'm currently riding a 8.25 x 32. I was thinking about going down to a 8.0. The problem I have been noticing is that my feet and this big deck keep getting in my way when i'm trying to do whatever and it's becoming very frustrating. I just started skating like 2 years ago and I'm into skating transition type stuff if that gives a little more information.

a quarter inch ain't gonna change much, bigger is better.  Juts roll with it.

Wouldn't hurt to try an 8 for awhile and see how you adjust to it. Just go for it! ::)

That's what I'm thinking. I doubt a quarter of a inch is going to do with anything. Plus, for what I like to skate I've heard that having a bigger deck is better.

Most dudes that like to skate tranny do prefer bigger decks, and most taller guys usually go bigger too, but if you feel that your deck's too big, try out an 8 and see if it helps. Nobody here can really tell you what feels best under your feet...Just try out different sizes/brands and see what works best for you.

i'm 6 feet tall and ride an 8.25. my feet are only a size 9 though.  the deck size wont improve your feet issue.  practice will.  sort of like a shitty golfer thinking pro clubs will make him a better golfer.

I'm just shy of 6'2 (my feet are small though, like 10.5), and I skated 7.75 for years.  Then I gave up trying to find decks that small (they're getting rarer) and made the leap to a full 8.  Best decision I ever made.

It's worth trying a narrower deck if you're curious (got any friends who ride 8?), but I'm betting you're gonna come to the same conclusion I did: a little wider makes shit easier to set-up and to land.

Then again, I am also TERRIBLE at skateboarding.

Homie, we aren't exactly Christian Hosoi over here either. Most of my friends that do skate ride big anyway, even if they're like 5'6 and 130 pounds. Ha Ha.

What is your question?  Are you asking if you should get an 8.0?  If you need an excuse to buy a new rig, then yes you should get an 8.0.  :)

I ride an 8.8 and a 7.75.  I suck equally on both.

I didint think my message was that cryptic, everyone else managed to figured it out.

You never asked a question nor asked for a suggestion.  You said "I am thinking of going down to a 8.0".  Okay.  Then do it.  It won't make a difference, you will still suck.  Don't blame your shitty skating on a quarter of an inch.

Don't insult the guy. He was saying that a majority of us aren't skinny, short nimble guys.

the more time you spend on a particular sized board, the more used to it you will become so naturally, that's the size you end up liking.  this makes it hard to change up sizes.  to me, the size and weight of you board is irrelevant as it's your brain and muscles that ultimately control what trick you want to do.  a bigger set up simply requires you to build up muscles, and smarts, to the point that your body can manipulate that board.

i've seen a bunch guys step up sizes only to give it up a few days later saying things like, it's to big, too heavy, i can't flip it right.  they always go back to what they're familiar with, even though they really could use the bigger board and it would really have benefited their skating had they stuck with it a little longer.

big boards and loose trucks kids!
