Title: Home Spots - backyard, driveway, etc.
Post by: elastic back on January 22, 2009, 06:36:56 AM
this thread is for you all to post the obstacles and spots you have made at home or for your private property. have a backyard mini? post it up. made your first box? let's see it. have your own berrics? prove it, and invite us over! have a plywood run set up around your yard? a launch ramp into your pool? some skate friendly home improvement modifications? show us.

i don't have any to show since i live in an apartment with no yard. so someone else is going to need to start us off.

here's a few of me and my old roomates driveway ramps....had a nice little setup
with a rail in between....it was a lot of fun, but we've since moved away and given
the ramps to some of the younger skaters there who used to hang with us

this fucker was soo gnar, I'd like to have kept it and re-worked it but now
I in an apartment near the city, so parks are rather abundant

and it mellow counter part, roll on this bitch to get yer bearings about ya,
then hit the biggun!

how big is that? the death lens makes it hard to imagine without someone skating it.

Ha ha, yeah, the picture's sort of fucked because it's actually a bunch of pics stitched together. Wish I had a fisheye camera because that would have been a helluva lot easier.

It's 3' tall by 15' wide. 7 or 8 feet of flat (can't remember). The extensions are 4'.

Title: Re: Home Spots - backyard, driveway, etc.
Post by: elastic back on February 04, 2009, 08:23:25 AM
nice. looks like fun...though i can't really get down with 3' minis. 4' are acceptable, but i like 5'+. but that isn't to say i wouldn't skate one if it were my only option...plus if you went bigger it might make the roof too close.

Title: Re: Home Spots - backyard, driveway, etc.
Post by: Brent212 on February 04, 2009, 10:05:05 AM
I went as big as I could go with what I had to work with. I can't even stand on the deck without bending over a little, and I'm not a tall guy. I would have loved to have been able to make it 4 or 5 feet, but it's still pretty fun as is.

This is a mini my friend Shaun and I built for some hot ass older lady's son. We got to skate it for one day, then the kid left it out in the rain and snow. It was ruined in 2 months because he was a fuckin' brat who didn't feel like covering it with a tarp. He couldn't even drop in either! Whatever, she paid us and that one day was pretty fun.

Troof?  That's like a phonetic spelling of a real word.  Maybe you deserve YOUR own post.  I mean, ohh, wow, you helped build a totally sweet, sooner or later to be legendairy skatepark in Seattle.  Maybe you should make like a spool of twine and start your own marginal thread.

Woops, a little, ok alot too much Merlot in the mix tonight.

Big up to anyone and everyone who takes the initiative to make difference in their own skate community no mayer the price.

It is people like you who, regardless of money or support from anybody but you, make this whole skateboarding thing more than just some jock ass, dick pounding dude fest.

Thanks to anyone and everyone who has made skateboarding what it REALLY is today.

Double the size and maybe make it a little taller and you have my dream life right about there.

At the hospital where I work, I was walking down the stairs of the parking garage and saw that next door is a sweet mini ramp...almost feel like knocking and asking if I can skate it before work.

now that its getting warm im gonna do a little ramp maintenance.   gonna cut it down a foot on one side, and a foot on half the other side.  so itll be 3.5 x 3.5 w/ 4.5 extension.  for how narrow the ramp is, its too tall. if i could kick it out another 4 ft itd be a dream.  but whatever.  on the extension im thinking either bull coping or marble (<<----expensive!!!woo even scraps!)  refinish and repaint the surface.  i actually got steve berra to send me a pic of what they painted all the ramps in the berrics.  gonna take the pic to home depot "give me 2 gallons of this."  ill post when its done.

I have a room in my house that is 12X10' with 100" ceiling and I plan to build a mini ramp in it.  One wall will have coping and the other will be a wall ride. My question is how deep should I make the platform? I know from the tip of the nose of my favorite board to the back truck is 22 inches but since i need room, I'm guessing a 16" deck will be fine.

Any suggestions or comments?

Title: Re: Home Spots - backyard, driveway, etc.
Post by: elastic back on November 10, 2009, 01:30:56 AM
it will be tight eitherway. how tall are you going to make it? and are you building it 12' long and 10' wide or vice versa?

Title: Re: Home Spots - backyard, driveway, etc.
Post by: krusher on November 10, 2009, 01:15:34 PM
12' long 10' wide meaning I'll have ten feet of coping. I'm planing on making the side with coping at 30" tall so I don't have to duck much. I'm guessing of using a 6 foot radius for tranny and using my hard wood floor as the flat bottom to save ceiling height.

I measured 16" against a wall and tried to stand in that space, it's possible but uncomfortable. At 18" from the wall it's much more comfortable, so I might go 17" just to save an inch of flat bottom haha. I have a big closet that I can use as a waiting area if I have friends over but it goes the opposite direction of the platform.

I guess I'm asking if anyone has experience skating a ramp with a small deck, and what was their take on it?

make the deck big enough  to properly deck rock and rolls, or your ramp sucks.

Is it really that satisfying doing a rock&roll on a 30" ramp?

If I put a 22" deck with coping on one side, and a wall ride on the other, both with 6' trannys in a 12 foot room I'll have no flat bottom.

I'm looking for a compromise... I don't want my tiny bedroom ramp to suck as much as a tiny bedroom ramp could.

I pick up the wood tomorrow... the best part... it's all FREE!

Thanks for the help guys

Worse than that, they had sawhorses and a circular saw and instead they're using a sawzall to cut 2x4s.

6 foot trannies on a 30 inch ramp? *yawn*

make them eliptical and/or tighter. than you can have some flat, a real sized deck, and learn how to skateboard.

6 foot trannies on a 30 inch ramp? *yawn* make them eliptical and/or tighter. than you can have some flat, a real sized deck, and learn how to skateboard.

I'll look into it.

I scored two pieces of marine plywood and a shit load of 2x's. Now i need to find a ten foot pole... whats the best OD for coping? my guess is 2&3/8".

I wasn't going to start building until December but I can't wait so I'll start tomorrow. I have 2 doors and a 5 foot wide wall on the side I need the plat form, so i think I'm going to expose the studs in the wall and open the doors to allow for more tricks to be done, and probably go with a 20" platform.... who needs flat bottom. I still think 6 foot tranny will be the funnest but I'll draw a bunch before I cut (maybe make the wallride side steeper).

I plan on taking pictures through the process and I'll have a Gnar-B-Q when I'm done.

6 foot trannies on a 2 1/2 foot tall ramp? it'll be like a wheelchair ramp. 6 foot trannies will make the angle at the coping less than 45 degrees. anything under about 60/70=boring mellow bullshit.  especially if its at your house and you'll be skating it a lot. 4 foot trannies. 3 if you feel like a toughguy. or elliptical, starting at 4 and ending up 3. but 6? just go buy a razor scooter or something.

Listen to Bailgun and Susej it's for your own good. You're gonna get tired of those mellow trannies pretty quick and then you're really gonna regret it.

Sorry for my ignorance guys, the only information I have on building ramps is from the Thrasher Ramp Book and I guess it's outdated.

The first tranny I drew out was four foot and it looks soooooooo good. With a 2 foot deck I'll still get 24" of flat bottom.

I'll get a storage unit tomorrow so I can move my stuff out of this room, and I'll probably start cutting on Saturday. I'm thinking of making a removable middle on the wall ride side for some death defying rides.

I have a coping question. What is the best pipe to use? Also I don't want to drill holes through the coping so I'm going to tack on some all thread every 2 feet and bolt it on, does this sound good or is there a better way?

I'm going with bull nosed clay bricks

NOW WE'RE TALKING SKATEBOARDING!!!

brick is rad. cheap, easy and fun. just make sure to use mortar... document it well, and do a how-to thread in here.

I've tried using regular red bricks for coping before and that shit just crumbles so fast.  We built a china bank this summer though at my park and used these grey landscaping bricks and that shit grinds soooooooooooo good.  We didn't even use mortar, we just built a shelf for the bricks and attached them with substrate construction adhesive.  Even without clear coat they grind amazingly, and with it, ooh wee.

Here's some photos, I don't know what the shit is called, but it looks like it's made out of concrete.

good call. you didn't make the trannies too mellow.

are you making real flatbottom, or just using kickplates? although i guess you could just screw the plywood directly to the floor...

Title: Re: Home Spots - backyard, driveway, etc.
Post by: krusher on November 29, 2009, 12:38:25 PM
Yep I'm gonna screw it to the floor, originally I was going to use the wood floor and kick plates but I added carpet for noise. Its all built now I just need sheeting, my budget is $0 and I've done pretty well with that so far... it's mental torcher having a ramp you can't skate

(http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g279/oldmanskater/overview2.jpg)you're looking a significantly more than $500 for that thing. i'm guessing homeboy is about 1,500 deep in that thing. unless the wood was "liberated" from somewhere....

I plan on making some other shit for my mini... you will be stoked.

I built the bank for my friend Dave, its 4 feet wide 18 inches tall and 20 inches deep, it's meant to fit along the back seat of most cars just like my two step

That is the prototype version it now has angle iron, I built it with only plywood... it's a tank. Next one will be so perfect it will almost be marketable.

Had a free ticket to Bad Brains waiting for me in AZ last night... too bad, I was stuck in Whale's Vagina. To deal with the depresion I decided to buld my Fr iends mini-quarter yesturday.

He wanted a 7 foot wide quarter to fit in his driveway, I decided to make two 3.5 foot quarters... think of the posibilities.

I pre cut everything at my shop, this way I could fit it all in my car
(http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t238/joedalton/Mobile%20Uploads/0_0-1.jpg)

Almost all of the wood was recycled from palets and crates
(http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t238/joedalton/Mobile%20Uploads/0_0-8.jpg)

Had a couple of Barny Bikers help me

Gapage and crackage

It's fun... footage coming soon

No  spell check... hope I did well

Thanks for the kudos. Destroying and building have always been my two favorite things to do.
I was hoping to have some footage of people doing some fun stuff on it by now, this weekend should be good for a B-B-Q and skate jam.

If I don’t start knocking down the walls in my house to bowl out my mini, I think my next project will be building a travel size quarter that I can fit in my car... instead of tailgating at a ball game we’ll be tailskating

I don’t know if this is a home spot but I made a Travel Quarter with noping, which really makes it a launch ramp

I got the idea to make a travel quarter while reading epicly trife and Schmitty’s “Opening Day” post, and thought to myself… if I was going to be tailgating, I’d better be tailskating.

I fucken love this thing

2 weeks to build, 4 ft high, 16 ft wide, 7 ft trannys, 8 ft of flat, 2 layers of 3/8' & a top layer of ramp armor.

Wish I had the land to make something like that, just a relaxed, mello, mini, something you could start and end a perfect skate day with. If I had build it I would have went with 6' 6.6" trannys... that's my favorite

A month back, a local high school teacher flipped his car traveling with his wife, who was also a high school teacher & their 26 yr old son, the dad was hammered & the son was killed. Some dudes were digging out the sign that their car flipped into & were pulling out all that concrete. I stopped and asked if they were dumping it & they were cool enough to drop it off in my front yard to be used as filler. They are now stopping by randomly with more until the driveway is finished. Bradenton FL may not have a lot of skate spots but we have some cool ass people.

opinions needed, brick coping so would it be better to pour the tranny first then the deck with a 2nd pour or do them together?

Title: Re: Home Spots - backyard, driveway, etc.
Post by: bailgun on May 28, 2010, 07:42:22 PM
do the tranny first. then deck, then coping. you might be able to do the coping second.

and if you have to do any more flats, do them last of all.

and instead of having a seam RIGHT at the start of the tranny, try to put them a foot or so back from it.

This part of our property has been in this state since the early 80's (Cinder block walls). I started building the skate spot in June this year and these are pics of what I have done so far. I have plans to build the entire area as time and money permit. I pay for supplies myself so I have to build in sections.
What it looked like after I built a wooden bank and poured the wallride.

Now

The sessions have been a blast so far.

That's some proper DIY Salamander. It's the kind of stuff I wish I had the guts to build

Thanks krusher, the sessions have been a lot of fun so some of the hard work is starting to pay off.

please do!

well it's been quite some time since i've built a ramp so here are the fruits of this afternoons labor. i spent $100 and recycled some wood laying around the garage.  i can still park both my cars in there too.

found this composite parking block on the side of the road.  seems to grind good and it's light enough for my application. stoked.

Good job Dan!

I’ve got a bunch of those parking blocks, I just don’t know what to make. Are you a TV Repair Man? You’ve got an awesome set of tools…

thanks man!  ya the block is pretty cool.  i thought i'd like something other than coping and snagged it on the way home today.  the blocks at Burnside were the inspiration.

a TV repairman?  sorry, but i lol'd!  nah, i work for volkswagen and have been a technician for almost 20 years.  that is my home tool box as i have a small business i run out of the garage on my free time.  my tool box at work is easily double the size of that red one.

Cool dan!

If it were mine, unless I'm going with a super-heavy-duty surface, I'd add a couple more 2x4s toward the bottom of the transition.

That's brilliant using your cutout leftovers for your wall protector. How are the plastic blocks? What's the dart to skater casualty rate?

My brother has a house near a lake in Vancouver or BC or something, it's where his wife is from. I want to visit them before summer, I don't know if I will. Are you near the west coast?

I wanted to do diagonal ply on my ramp... I'm jealous! Every time I got to the final layer at FTR I had about 4 dudes looking over my shoulder asking if I was done yet.

Also I find your ramp to be shredding!

Title: Re: Home Spots - backyard, driveway, etc.
Post by: dtotherob on February 23, 2011, 04:57:21 PM
thanks!  ya the diagonal was a no brainer.  i had 2 friends over saturday night to skate and they made the suggestion to masonite it (i had planned to but at a later date).  so sunday morning, we each bought 2 sheets and shredded that night.  it only took 5 sheets so i'll have to build a tombstone or something using the 6th.   ;D

I don't claim to have raised the gnar bar with this but it's my first build and I went pretty conservative because I had no idea how big to build given the space (or lack thereof).  If I did it again I would probably go bigger but this is my garage and I wanted to leave room for a parking space, tools, beer fridge and all that shit.  I have ~10 nice concrete parks within 45 minutes of my house so this is perfect for sustaining me through snow days and times when I just feel like sticking around the house and slaying some beers...

Do you happen to have a dart to skater ratio? Inquiring minds want to know.

Post by: Stabby_McShiv on February 27, 2011, 06:44:17 AM
Thanks.

The dartboard actually doubles as a field sobriety test for the ramp.  If you can't throw a decent game of darts then you can't roll the ramp.

I'm planning to do diagonal ply on the mini I'm getting started on this week, any pointers? It seems pretty straightforward, but there's usually a few little things you should know ahead of time that someone figures out the hard way and passes down to the next guy.

Title: Re: Home Spots - backyard, driveway, etc.
Post by: dtotherob on May 29, 2011, 07:57:13 AM
i started by cutting a right angle triangle piece off of the first sheet and placed it up in the corner.  after that, i just layed them down accordingly. trimmed when needed and most time the triangle you cut from one piece, fits in the next spot.   i hope my poor explanation helps.  you might need some basic math skills but don't over think it.  it's really quite easy.  maybe these will give you an idea.

Building a home spot with pavers. Here are some pics of my materials and about 1/2 the space I have started.
Does anyone have some experience building with pavers?
I have seen pictures of it done. Brotherhood skatepark in Stolkholm, Sweden has a paver bank/pyramid hip.
Any idea for other stuff with the pavers?

How'd it go?

If I didn't have any walls in the way I would just lay a ply in the middle of my ramp at a 45 degree angle and start screwing the other plys next to that. Anything that hanged over I would cut off and use for filler in smaller parts. It would all just kinda work out. I could use a speed square to set my first 45 degree but most likely I would eyeball it. I'm not too experienced as a ramp builder but I've found if you throw some wood at it the ramp will build itself

We started building this at the end of last year. It's in a backyard. We would have been finished a few months ago but the man got in the way. Just finished going through the permit process and back working. At least we had the shallow to skate while we were in limbo.

Now we are shooting for November as a finish date, if we have the funds.

We might have done that once or twice!  ;D

Getting the permit was way harder than carrying 32,000lbs of concrete to the back yard. Had to grind out some frustrations somehow.

Ah I've reading your blog for a few months now. Really I just check in the morning hoping you'd post up directions to all those diy spots!

If I knew where most of those spots were i would let you know if you PM'd me but the truth is I don't, I'm guessing your spot is up north on the west coast? It could be in Georgia  for all I know. It is AMAZING how many DIY spots there are.

Welcome to the forum Frank feel free to take full reign of the DIY thread and tell the story of your bowl. You have a lot of valuable experience, even if it's a post about you permit struggles, believe me that is information people need to learn.

Fire pit love seat? sounds perfect.

Here's my blog tracking my wild and crazy skateboard adventure.  Nothing too crazy, just stuff we build and places we skate.

www.down-4-life.blogspot.com (http://www.down-4-life.blogspot.com)

There are a couple of photos of the china bank build.  With all materials (including wood for the form), about 115 bucks.  It really was simple and is only 8 pieces of wood.  The thing is burly as all get out and fun to skate, I'm just not so sure it's the best thing for my 4 yr old son to learn on!  Most dad's build mellow shit, I build something that most people can't skate!  Oh well.

SWEET! MORE STUFF FOR ME TO BLOG!

Down 4 life is booked marked.

Stoked that you are moving forward on your bowl Frank. A friend of mine got all of the inspectors and codes people of his back when he started calling his bowl a "backyard deck with artistic seating", he's had no trouble for 2 years now.

I got the "We don't care what you call it! You dug a big hole in the ground and your putting concrete in it! That's a swimming pool!" So I filled out all the permit paper work listing it as a skateboard ramp. I think they were wanting to jack my property taxes up. I have to get a framing inspection hopefully this week or next. Then I'm done with the city. I'm hoping to have the bowl done by the end of November.  Well minus decking.

Our closest skatepark is almost 2 hours away. They just passed an ordinance banning skateboarding in downtown. So we started a non-profit and are trying to get parks in the central Mississippi area. skatems.com
So at times it seems like our city hates us, but we are trying to change it. We have 2 locations we are working on getting right now. So it's just fundraising form here out.
Shameless plug: Buy this CD compilation! http://skatems.storenvy.com/products/102849-kids-need-fresh-air-2cd-compilation (http://skatems.storenvy.com/products/102849-kids-need-fresh-air-2cd-compilation)
All proceed go to The SkateMS Foundation.

Nice blog! I want to do some floating concrete ramps randomly throughout the city. No fill looks so good.

Glad to see you back Salamander. If I do a northern trip I'm gonna hit you up to skate and blog your pad... HAHA

After the last pour I was dying to work on the next section. When I did the first quarter I fucked up by not digging a trench to have the transition meetup into ::). Winter is right around the corner and I am sick of using bondo for patchwork, so I got busy.

Got it all cut, jackhammered and poured Saturday and was able to mount the coping and pour the deck Sunday, this way it can dry all week and get to skate it next weekend.

Frank your bowl is looking real nice, only flat bottom and deck left to pour. I bet your getting anxious,

Thanks for blogging the build Krusher, nice. Weather forecast shows rain this weekend which puts me back two weeks in building now, it gets dark too early only allowing the weekend for building. I want to quit my job so I can work on this every day.......but then I'd have no money to build haha.

Axious... I have no self control. We took a few runs last night. I can't decide if I just want to get enough crete to finish the flat and coping decks or wait until I have enough cash to pour another 5yards.

I say if you have the cash to get the concrete and mix it yourself then go for it!!! That flat bottom shouldn't take more than 20-25 bags if that, I can't tell the exact size from the picture, then you can skate it as you go from there.

It'll take about a yard. Around here even with delivery fees it's cheaper to get the 2 yard min. I have to do the coping decking around the last pour to. We hand mixed our first wall. I really don't ever want to do that again if I don't have to. I'l probably end up getting the 2 yard min and finish out the necessities.

Doorway of death? That's gonna be awesome!

Here it's $100 a yard, 2 yard min with $100 delivery fee for anything under 5 yards. We've just been paying the delivery fee and pouring 2-3 yards at a time. The last pour was our only 5 yard pour. But now that is all flat to finish out, I don't want to do less than 5.

We've never poured anything until this project. So we didn't want to end up wasting a bunch of mud if we couldn't handle it. Even with the delivery fee it's cheaper and easier than buying bags and hand mixing.

I never really knew what the cost was for delivery of yards of concrete, good info here. In my case the area where i am building is down behind my driveway so I'd need to have a pump to get the concrete down there. I always figured it would be too expensive and actually wouldn't be able to afford the $300 at a time route. Up until the last 2 pours I have been just mixing in a wheel barrow but recently a buddy loaned me his mixer. We mix about 2 - 90# bags at a time and usually around 20-30 bags per section/pour.A pallet with 30 - 90# bags usually runs me about $115 plus the Portland add another $22. I usually use about 1 bag of Portland for every 10 bags of Quikrete, dumping about a shovel and a half into each bag of quikrete. Also, when buddy's come to help they bring a few bags each which helps a lot, I provide food and beer.
So the bank and the escalator section cost me around $200 to build with decks and coping. I know the mixing yourself seems like more of a pain in the ass but it is actually a bit cheaper and I'm used to it now and kind of enjoy it.

Looking at the steepness of your build I was starting to wonder if you are crazy.  Having seen the death door addition it's clear that you are straight up bat shit crazy.  Way to not fuck around and I reckon it's pretty humbling to skate.  I am impressed.

Haha laughing my ass off, thanks man. Every time I'm getting ready to build a new form my buddy's will say "not too steep man"!!! And then I build it steep.  When you first skate there it takes some getting used to, but after a session or two you start to figure out lines and the angles. Some dudes come over and litterally kill it right away so I guess the gnarlyness of it makes it more fun cuz it's not the easiest stuff to skate, no fucking around. I spent the last 10 years skating spots like Channell street (San Pedro), a lot of empty pools and a shit load of skateparks so I guess that's where my build ideas come from. Oh, and I am a bit crazy!!! I couldn't do all this without the help of my buddy's.

I don't get a break on pallets. It's $3.49 per 80# bag of 3000 mix. Plus the portland. We traded a tool rental company a website for any tools we need so we don't pay for backhos, mixers, and that kind of shit. We mixed our first pour which ended up being about 50 bags and it took us 14 hours to mix and finish. We did our last 5 yard pour in about 12 hours. I think there's 45, 80# bags in a yard which would be about $158 per yard. So I guess you don't really save any money until your pouring 3+ yards. We do the same with the portland about a shovel and a half per bag.

You gotta be a bat shit crazy to even start pouring crete. There's so much to it. Although the only thing I'd rather be doing is skating the shit we built.

Thanks bailgun, you are 100% correct with that last comment. Started at 9am and it started sprinkling by 11 but really started coming down around 12-1. It poured hard till around 8pm, I was out there finishing at 1-2am and had to go to work the next day. The left corner fell down 3 times and restacked, every time had to wait 2 hours before touching it again. I cannot believe it even came out as good as it did. Learning more every pour.

I wish man, didn't get any extra time off work. Was back to work on Monday after christmas and new years. We have a lot of filler/dirt work to do before the tranny's get poured. Hopefully by the end of this month.

Hopefully this weekend we will have a retaining wall built, gate up and pool coping steps roughed in.  Maybe start framing up deck features too.

I'm most stoked on having the float pump installed and plumbed out. Should make clean up after rain non-existent!

I can't wait to see the finished product.
I have feelings of ultimate jealousy though. When I grow up, I want a skate spot just like this!

Spoked to Screech a couple of weeks ago and he is stoked on what is going on over at your pad Salamander. He didn't say this but you could get the sense that you were building his dream land.

P.S. Screech killed WSVT

^ do yo have to kerf cut the OSB to bend it?

@Salamander -
What's the name of your spot? Let me know if you are going to do any work 2 weeks from now. I'd like to come up, help out and interview you for the blog. My house is reserved this weekend and next weekend but I'll close it down to go up there.

If you mean for the underneath of the doorway I used a 3/8 peice of plywood that already had a bend in it from an old ramp I took apart.
We have been calling the spot "Salamander Ranch". I should be working on new forms next weekend and possibly pouring the following weekend. PM me and I can send you my number.

The pic makes it look short/small. People need to understand that at the push broom and cement mixer height it's 5 feet tall give or take some inches.

Yeah I should probably explain a bit more. To the right of the mixer and broom (corner wall ride trannsitions) are about 3 1/2' tall. The top of that wall is about 10 or 11'. If you go right the small quarter is about 5' then the bigger quarter spreading over the doorway is about 6 1/2'. On the other side to the left of the mixer, the bank is 6 1/2' of steepness and then escalador down to another 5' quarter. The pic makes everything appear much smaller.

Planning on going all the way around so it connects together both sides and will be a bowl in the end. Hope to have it finished by summer (June) so I can stop working my ass off every weekend and just have some good summer sessions.

Krusher, this is some more footage of the yard. These are some podcasts I submitted to itunes for teaching geometry as it relates to skatepark stuff. All the armchair skatepark builders will call bullshit on me, but I show how to build on a super tight budget. I will probably present some calculus podcasts this summer. The footage is from the summer of 2011. Turn down the volume if you don't want to be bored with the mathematical wizardry.............................

^ One of the raddest things posted on this forum. Put them on YouTube so I can blog (http://blog.networkskate.com/search?q=DAILY+D.I.Y.&max-results=20&by-date=true) them.

Every once in a while someone will show me some math short cuts to get a job done faster but I always forget them. I need a DIY cheat sheet.

Seriously everyone who builds with concrete should write these equations down

P.S. If you get rid of all of the junk in the youtube url you can post their videos direct. Quote this comment to see what I did. You can also do it in share mode as long as you copy the long url

hey i was wondering if anyone knows what size footings you should use on cinderblock walls that are 8 feet 10 feet and 12 feet tall.

hey i was wondering if anyone knows what size footings you should use on cinderblock walls that are 8 feet 10 feet and 12 feet tall.

For every 4' high the ditch should be 2' deep. And double the width of the cinder block. If you are using a 8x8x16 block then the footing should be at least 16" wide. If the wall is 8' then the footing should be about 4' deep. So at the bottom of the 4' should be about 8-10" thick footing.

Some people are just too bored. Being able to watch TV in complete isolation is sooo much more constructive than creating and skating an amazing bowl.

I hope they fuck off soon.

^ HAHA Stoked you'd noticed

Spent the day connecting my bedroom to my living room

^ Hopefully I'll have that corner connected in a couple of weeks

I built it all, my friends just sat there and talked shit, then continued to skate it for the next three hours. At least they brought me a sandwich, but they did drink most of my beer...

Sounds like we have the same friends...
