Title: What happened to Slick Decks??
Post by: ICantStandYous on March 10, 2009, 07:00:37 AM
I am getting back into skating after a 12 year hiatus.  Let me ask yous,

What ever happened to slick decks?  I always used to love them.  I have been looking around for boards and I can't find anymore?
Why did everyone do away with them?

Label will put one out every season or so.  I believe they are called "Rock Bottom" models.

Everslick's were the best - FACT.

But you could just throw on a set of rails and get the same shit these days I suppose.

There was one more that I had that I just remembered, it was the first one I had.  I cant for the life of me remember whos it was, but it had a giant picture of a 40 of Old English, and if I remember right there was a pic of a fake ID on the top side.  My parents were not very happy with it, that I remember very clearly.  Does anyone have any idea what it was?  I would love to know.

i know which one you are talking about. i want to say it was a sanch board too, but i am probably wrong. get the book "disposable," it is in there will many, many other old board graphics that will psych you up. i will look in it tonight to double check on that board...though someone will probably remember before i do.

ever-slicks were boards with a layer of  not-sure-what (plastic? epoxy?) over the graphic to preserve it and to make your board slide things without wax better.

I just remembered one more slick that I had, and this one was the last one I ever had.  It was an Other Level Chris Gentry with a Scarface rip-off graphic, early '94?  I don't think that company was around very long.  Wow I forgot all about that board.

I also had a lame slick deck by a company called Crime I think.  It was black with a picture of an uzi.  I tossed it into this wire sculpture thing at Horton Plaza when I was pissed.

One of my best friends in '96 or so had a slick deck that had the "York" Peppermint Patty logo on it, except it said "Dork"
Does anyone remember that one? Which company was that?

I remember that one.  I don't know for sure but it may have been a comapny named Dork, or it could've been a Bitch deck.

If I remember right, it might have been a New School.  They sold it at the shop I worked at at the time, and they refused to sell World products because they (World) were forcing shops to sell Big Brother if they wanted to sell World stuff, so I don't think it was a Bitch, but it might have been New Deal, I'm wracking my brain trying to remember

I was wondering the same.

I remember that they were more expensive, plus they were heavier than the regular decks. Plus, it's not as though putting wax on a rail won't make a regular board slide on it. So I guess slicks were completely redundant and that's why they stop making them. That's just a guess though.

Nice bump.  In 4th or 5th grade I had Tom Knox and Eric Dressen slicks with the fancy twin rocket concave or whatever. Dont recall them being any slicker than a normal board with wax or rails. Heavy too.

profit margin...

why make something good and only make $20 profit

when you can claim them un cool and make $40 profit off a normal deck
