All I know is that Gus Van Sandt made it and it has a lot to do with Burnside and you might even see some Oregon loc's in the casting...

hmmm... a film about skateboarders made by an old dude who doesn't skateboard, and is most well-known for a film about drug-addled gay teenage prostitutes....

what could possibly go wrong?

Yup, Im skeptical. I heard at first that it was all filmed with the local Burnside rippers, but after seeing the trailer, looks semi scary. I'm sure I'll find myself watching though.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.  When is it due to be released?

Im not sure, I thought I heard Friday, but I also saw that it won some big award at the Independent awards, so maybe it was released in select cities

its out. theres torrents of it all over, and i think it might be on quicksilverscreen if you've got an hour and a half to waste, go for it.

Watched all of it somehow.  Pretty slow, pretty weak, but now I never have to watch again.  I'd suggest it for a rainy day if you have nothing better to watch.

99% of the skating (not that much) is filmed in 8/16mm, so it looks like a Veeco production, but way, way shittier.

6/10

6/10? really? you're generous.

i just watched it, and that thing just flat-out sucked. what little skateboarding there was was filmed horribly, and run in super slo-mo. i used to say that any burnside footage was fun to watch, but i see now that i was wrong. it almost looks like they just strapped a camera to a dog and then had it chase the skaters around the park...  the plot went nowhere, and i couldn't even begin to give a shit about any of the characters. plus van sant's obvious boner for teenage boys, manifesting itself in super long, super closeups of the main character (who's name i can't even remember) made it feel kinda creepy to watch. i'm guessing it'll be a big hit on the NAMBLA film festival circuit.

and the "actors" were abysmal. i like the idea of casting unknowns in order to make the characters seem more believable, but the kids they got for this were terrible.  in some parts it seemed like they were reading their lines for the first time ever.

the only positive thing i can say about it is that the production kicked down a bunch of loot to burnside, and the square bowl is finally getting it's much-needed re-do, and a lot of other repairs/maintance as well.

and there's a wall on top now, so the creepy lurker factor has diminished. nothing beats trying to get a session with a bunch of sketchy 40-year old dudes undressing you with their eyes... ironic that a pedophile like van sant paid to insure that his brethren can no longer ogle sweaty teenage boys at burnside (sorry, i mean paranoid park) anymore.

oh, and local portland legend/dickhead jay smay played the kids dad, so hopefully, he got some cash out of it too.
