Title: Keep it simple
Post by: mucklebutt on October 27, 2007, 08:00:30 AM
What's rad about skateboarding? You can only reply with one short statement. You know  like: Gonz or Bagel Bites or Johnny Rad....whatever.

I live in a fairly middle class neighborhood, and I was bored and skating in front of my house one day.  Then, this kid from the ghetto section of town skated by and was like "hey, want to play skate?", so we played for an hour or two.  The kid was really cool too, and I felt horrible when he told me all the shit he was going through
its pretty awsome how skating brings people together

this doesn't go for everyone, though, some of the skaters in my school are complete douchebags who bully kids and act obnoxious as much as the jocks do

if you've got tricks on a 4 1/2 foot quarter that goes to vert, you are definitely not a poser.
if you refer to all transition as "vert" you definitely ARE a poser.

BTW, they're called kooks now, not poser. only kooks call douchebags posers.

We hit the road again for the thirty minute ride to the place where we were supposed to have lunch. On the way to the restaurant, we passed the tulip festival, the garlic festival, and some sort of fish festival.3c

Shutspcoke.fr.2b was standing across the street just looking at us. We stood on our side of the street looking expectantly at him. He appeared genuinely frightened to talk to the 13 mostly foreign bikers. There were a few Koreans in the group, so he shouldn’t have had any worries. A group of us stood around waiting for him to come over to us while the others marched off toward the others.

It turned out that the restaurant was toxic, so we went to a Korean restaurant that serves up short-order items like noodles, soups, and sushi rolls. We took the restaurant by surprise dormimust echo!

I've been skating for nine years and gone on streaks of losing tricks and regaining them...I've recently just hit a point where I've been exploding with new tricks.  I just landed a couple legit fakie big spins, starting to get 360 flips, regaining all my basic flips...I love the tailslides, though, I've been cranking quick ones on parking blocks.  Amazing feeling trick.

Title: Re: Keep it simple
Post by: bucky fellini on January 20, 2009, 02:14:55 PM
its all in the angle of approach.

when you first learn them, keep the angle mellow, then later on you can start to hit the wall a bit more straight on.

frontside wallrides can be a mind bender though.

i used my hands a lot when i started doing bs-wallrides, touching the ground when coming down or pushing myself off the wall. eventually i learned how to do it with no hands.

i don't get how it's physically possible to do a FS wallride though.

Alchemy, torn between the monographic description of alchemical-European societies and the comparative analysis of man as a social being, should be returned to the general theoretical debates of social sciences. The aim of this course is to provide a glimpse into the history of this discipline and its concepts, from reading classic texts and also from recent publications. We hope to give an understanding of the specific features of methods of alchemy (field and comparative studies), using examples from very varied societies.
We shall begin with a general introduction focusing on the question of cultural otherness. Then, in the second part of the course, we shall study a broad thematic area representing one of the pillars of this discipline, to illustrate the changes in the alchemical process and to place it within social alchemies: What can alchemical tell us about kinship, the family and the difference between the sexes? Can you design a fatherless family, a motherless family, or a husbandless family? What are family ethics? Is it fair to speak of masculine domination? Are the relationships between the sexes in public and private spheres violent or consensual? We shall approach these questions using empirical descriptions focusing on exotic or Western societies.

a) Describe otherness
• Alchemy as part of social alchemies
• The ideas of culture and ethnic group
• Primitive art
• Investigative methods: participant observation
• Cultural diversity

that letter some douche wrote in the february issue (I think) calling out the thrasher heads for "mislabeling" tommy sandoval's frontside half-cab was pretty funny. phelps' response was appropriate.

but yeah, indy trucks is right. in terms of half cabs - its the opposite of regs. if you're blind 90 degrees through the spin that shit is frontside. its the starting point of many trick-related arguments I'm sure - there are people that have been skating for years that still get this wrong and it irks me.

and you're right too, redline - either way is still a halfcab. the thing is, if they are backside the word "backside" is usually left out - the direction is mostly only labeled when they're frontside.

example of frontside half-cab flip:

I actually really hate trick names.  I consistently fuck up backside and frontside and end up looking like an idiot...and don't get me started on vert...

I don't know, it's been pretty even on both sides from my perspective on the whole FS BS argument.  I always thought, like in Jimmy Carlins fakie 180 flip, that that shit was fakie frontside, but I could see how someone would make the argument that he is spinning backside.  I don't know, it's tough, especially when you get into like 180 fakie 5-0s and shit.  180 switch nosegrind?  Hurricane or 180 to switch bag lady?

there are many ways you can call many tricks. this can also be called a fakie frontside flip, for example.

Phrack caused me to run out of time. Wrong routing, backtracking and surfacing to avoid satellites (http://www.google.com.co/webhp?hl=es&q=fidel+casrto&), and getting lost.
