...is what I'm looking for here. Also, rhythm and blues, doo wop, even some gospel if it sounds really good. This is my new favorite kind of music.
I'll start it off with some examples, but I'm looking for new (to me) music, so hook me up!

Parliament Funkadelic - Flashlight

Gladys Knight - Midnight Train to Georgia

New shit that's influenced by old shit like; The Noisettes - Never Forget You

Sam and Dave - Hold On

I dig Motown, but I'm more a Stax kinda guy....Grittier sound.

Sam & Dave, Otis Redding, Rufus Thomas, Isaac Hayes, Bar-Kays....Stax had so much talent

Kashmere Stage Band - Kashmere

The Meters are also great
Parliament's "Swing Down, Sweet Chariot" cover is so good

check out etta james "at last,"  I always have it on my I pod when im snowboarding especially. Also, Otis Redding has epic tunes such as "these arms of mine" and "sitting on the dock of the bay". AL Green, "tired of being alone."

There's a group in Minneapolis called The God Damn Doo Wop Band.  It's so bad ass.  They've got some talented dudes playing and three gutter punk chicks singing.  They're amazing!

As far as soul goes...

Sam Cooke is my all time favorite vocalist.  I listen to arguments for Freddie Mercury but I think Sam's got it.

I'm a little ignorant on the Stax front.  Are there any good collections that would be a good primer?  (And, yes, I know about Green Onions.)
