I guess I'm one of the lucky bastards that have been fortunate enough to have been supported with skateboarding by my parents.  I'm 28 now but when I was in elementary and junior high, my mom and dad took me to skateparks and contests all over Northern California and let me go to Visalia Skate Camp three years in a row.  It was pretty cool but at the same time almost ALL my friends' parents hated the fact that their kid skated, some parents even went to the extend that they couldn't hang out with me  The Jocks called you 'Skater guy I have a crush on!!!' and you definitely were not cool.

Skating was pretty faux paux at the time (even moreso for those older than me)... Anyways, its a lot more mainstream now but I was sipping my Crown Royal and started thinking about all of this.... are parents more cool with it or do they consider it a waste of time?

Nowdays I still have it pretty good, my wife is cool and nurses my injuries so I'm still a lucky bastard although I do take jibes from my uncles and coworkers every now and then Grin

My dad always encouraged me to skate when I was younger. Then as I got older, and started to get hurt more he got over it. He never tells me to stop skating, but he always says... "When I was 18 I broke my wrist and I stopped skating. You should do the same, or when your my age you wont be able to move. My mom has always been cool with it though.

i wouldn't say my parents support it but they don't ever give me shit about doing it. my old man will throw in the odd jab about it here and there but aside from that theyre cool. i started skating when i was 19 mainly because my younger bro who is now 11 got into it and needed someone to take him to the parks. my folks are cool with it because it means him doing something rather than sitting around and playing video games

I think everyone is fucking weird for not doing something progressive in their lives so it goes hand in hand.

Well at least we are progressing the thrasher forums further.  Civilization should be grateful for that.

Did they punish you with pics of gore when they found out you were skating?

Damn that fucking sucks.  My dad would threaten to do that if I messed up in school but luckily it never happened.
