I used to hate the Cure because they have the worst hard core fans.  Possibly the birth of the ICP.

But then I actually heard some of their music and it's not half bad.  Anyway, someone asked me if I liked the Cure and I had to think about it, and eventually couldn't give an answer.  So if anyone can post why anyone should or shouldn't like them, that would be great.

I hear what your saying and there was a time I couldn't stand The Smiths and the The Beatles for the same reasons.

I'll post some stuff by the Cure you may like. Like them, they are a great band.


Just think of bands like H.I.M., Avril Lavigne, Fall Out Boy, NSYNC, Paramore, and please do we need another NOFX / Pennywise /Rancid rip off band.   What weenies actually listen to that shit?

they were one of my first favorite bands. I know what you mean about the fans though. I haven't been able to stay with them through the years but I'm still pretty fond of their first records. Boys Don't Cry is a classic album. I'm backing their early stuff. but they have basically put out the same sound for 15 or so albums - so it can be a little much. plus Robert Smith is one of those singers that you either love or hate. 


Staring At The Sea is one of the first albums I ever bought with my own money so it will always be dear to me. it would be a good one to check out - its all the best stuff from the early/mid 80s.

The Cure is pretty much mood music.  Having said that, I saw The Cure live in Toronto 1990 with The Pixies, Love and Rockets and some other band I don't remember.

As far as sound quality and lights, it was awesome.  I wasn't on any drugs, but i sure felt like i was.  Tons of hot goth chicks running around too.  Robert Smith is one of the greatest live performers ever.

Now here is a reason to hate The Cure.  Crappy early 80s video with way to many close-ups on Robert Smith's butt-chin.  The song sort of makes me wanna slit my wrists as well...  and that's not good.  The chick is kinda hot in an 80s hair crimped way.

It's just one of those things I've always noticed.

If you dig the Smiths or Morrissey then you immediately cannot jam to the Cure, and if your into the Cure then you can't jam to the Smiths or Morissey.
