I built a gnarly box, 3 feet wide, 8 feet long, for under 40$ a couple years ago. I stole two plastic benches from my local gas station, they put them in between each pump to display product. they were too short to skate on their own,  so i put them together and made 1 nice box out of two small ones. i bought a nice sheet of plywood for 20$, some flat head countersunk screws, and i went to a place called the metal supermarket where the guy cut down 10' piece of angle iron down to the perfect size for us.  it was only 15$. The screws were less than 3$. I still had lots of wood leftover and the box still works great to this day, the only problem is the angle iron chews giant gashes in your nose/tail if you do noseslides/tailslides, and the angle iron can put kind of harsh chunks in your trucks as well. also the wood where your wheels dig in is starting to get a big chewed. i think next time id be better off getting larger angle iron but then you give up fastening structural integrity, and these boxes were not completely flat on the sides so that was a major issue.

but stealing the guts to the box can save you a lot of money and can end up being a lot stronger than using striaght up wood frame that shit gets rickety after 180 pound men are jumpin around on it all day
