I am strapped for cash and looking for something low on price but high on reliabilty.
Got some brands I could check out?

You might check your local skateshop and buy deck there. You can check local brands. There companies that have cheap decks- minilogo (Powell), Threat (Zero), Speed demons, Toy machine has a line with 40$ decks.

I don't have a local shop so I am stuck to ordering online. Have you heard anything good about Active boards or any other online shop's boards?

I have never tried this boards. I think they are o.k. I value shape in boards. I need 8*32, medium concave. Ussually boards have bad shape so I dont like them.
I forgot that Real has $40 decks like Toy Machine.
