Title: LinkedIn, Trying to Build Connections Post by: Babe, Mr. Ruth if you're Nasty on October 30, 2012, 09:43:21 AM I feel like I haven't posted here in Ages. I have been busy living on my own at school and dealing with a few setbacks in life. I am working towards a degree in graphic design. I decided to set up a LinkedIn account in order to build connections in the skateboard industry. I've already made a connection with Brian. I am hoping to try and get a job in either graphic design. Any little bit of advice will help.

If you can think of anything from those jobs that could relate to graphic design I would mention it. Otherwise use lots of verbs like "delivered" excellent customer service and "developed" effective interpersonal skills. "Consistently met personal sales goals," rather than "trying to meet" sound a lot more successful. Even if you have to really stretch your imagination you can find relate-able skills from almost anything, and you need to look effective in all endeavors even if inexperienced in the area your looking for work in. I always feel stupid trying to make myself sound like the shit, but it works. You probably also have services at your school for job applications/resumes/cover letters/interviews. Check out the website or talk to a counselor in your faculty and they'll tell you about it. Hope any of this helps and good luck. |
