Title: Looking to start skateboarding, need some advice?

I'm looking to start skateboarding.  Are Nike skate shoes good for skateboarding? And will buying them support the industry?

And also, I need to know what clothing to buy from what department store, because I need to look cool like these guys while I carry my skateboard around school:

I personally really like Lakai Shoes (http://Lakai Shoes), I am sure the nikes you are thinking of would be fine but like I said I love my Lakais.
