Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: destroyerjazz on April 07, 2009, 05:16:27 PM the worst is when they go to a skate park, yet only do flatland flip tricks...usually in front of ramps and stuff. the best is when it's a 10 person game of 16 years and under s.k.a.t.e.
meaning none of them land any tricks except shove its and the occasional kickflip, yet they keep trying for that 360 flip. that's totally cool if that's what they're into, but please don't do it in front of the shit people want to skate. take it to your driveway or something! Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: MonkeyMan72 on April 07, 2009, 05:18:43 PM skate street. Or YOU can grow a set and skate some vert. Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: C H U C K on April 07, 2009, 05:23:21 PM I like vert it's just not that accessible. If there were more vert ramps you might see it in the sponsor me section. The Rumble in Ramona looked pretty bad ass.

Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: C H U C K on April 07, 2009, 05:34:00 PM Well this old mans definition of vert is a halfpipe with transitions that lead to vertical.

Like i said anyone can skate at little 4 foot quarter. By big stuff u mean that 9 foot wall with 1 foot of vert that u can run out of. If you can run out of it its not big. Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: Alien Sweatshop on April 08, 2009, 04:20:18 AM If it wasn't for street skating we'd have less variety in the people who skate. It wouldn't be as accessible for inner city kids and such.
Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: elastic back on April 08, 2009, 07:53:29 AM it must also be noted that there are hardly anymore vert ramp only skater anymore, thus the submissions from vert skaters isn't there. most vert skaters now either skate bowls or megaramps, which are both technically vert at some point, but they almost cancelled the vert contest at the xgames because of the dwindling population of vert ramps. why don't we choose a freestyler or slalom dude while we are at it? there is one vert ramp in nyc, but i have probably only seen two people skate it. most of the time it sits idle. that is saying something...
Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: ze RJM on April 08, 2009, 09:28:29 AM ^^get to it!!
Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: elastic back on April 08, 2009, 09:30:26 AM i have skated it a couple times, but since it get bored with it after a bit, i usually go to the miniramp and have much more fun. it has a nice 7 foot extension and a spine into the street course. it is metal though :(
Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: Johnny Copp on April 08, 2009, 09:45:34 AM It's funny because when I think of Thrasher I think of (no really) Deluxe, Anti-hero, Tony Trujillo, Max Schaaf, Real,......essentially ill transition skating coverage...Phil Shao....when no other mags were doing so. Ledges and "street" aka rails WERE the only coverage at one point. Thrasher on the other hand was lending a helping hand in so many of what I consider "tranny" skaters get coverage when so many other mags weren't.
Yeah its not VERT...but seriously a real VERT ramp back and forth machine is hard to come by for most skaters and then to excel at skating where you have no choice but to go 20-25mph plus to do tricks well its just not as common as the kid who can kickflip a 10 stair or whatever is boring at the moment. If there are VERT ams out there that need to "get sponsored" via the thrasher website..well Ben Raybourn's covered....and well all the others....send their shit in. It's quite possible that Thrasher hasn't seen a vert or even tranny video that's worth putting up. Yes that is a possibility. You sound ignorant when you ask if Thrasher sponsors anything other than events. Who's pro for Transworld? I heard Power Edge made these sick decks and Dave Crabb was pro for them?? Yeah right. Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: Alien Sweatshop on April 08, 2009, 10:24:20 AM This is a question I've had for a while, do all the vert-only skaters who never skate street even cruise around? Or do they just have their parents drive them to the local half pipe, with green shorts, yellow t shirt and full pads mall grabbing and shit and then once they get to the pipe they start getting down and do their 900's while speaking to an interviewer about how important it is for him to land a 900 before the next CASL? I can't fathom the idea of Shaun White doing a slappy.

I can't fathom the idea of Shaun White doing a slappy. I have a longboard because i downhill. On days i dont go to the park and its nice out i go cruise around the neighborhood and bomb some hills. The only time i go street skating is with my little brother. Well go find some steep sidewalks downtown and bomb them while ollieing everything on the way down. Then we go to the next part of the city. I dont sit a 6 stair and do a trick down it then walk back up. Street skating should be just going and hitting everything you can find totally Julien Stranger style. Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: dtotherob on April 08, 2009, 04:28:05 PM i've got a buddy with an 11' vert ramp. me and some other guys also have a broken down vert ramp. it needs to be assembled, (it's in large blocks) re sheeted and skated. it's already on a cement pad, just out side of town. we are going to make a strong effort to get it going this summer.
Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: colorblindbowen on April 08, 2009, 06:55:53 PM I've only skated a 9 footer at Woodward. I rock full pads and it's so fun. I can only do like 5 or six tricks but it feels amazing. I just learned FS airs in a 7 foot bowl and I can't wait to take it to the vert in July. It's just like anything else, you have to invest some time in it to be able to have fun.
Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: seedless on April 11, 2009, 12:32:10 PM So when are we gonna stop seeing all these shitty street skaters in the "Sponsor Me" videos and start seeing some vert. Please none of you Sheckler dick sucking homos post a rage reply talking shit about vert. No one cares that you can do a kickflip down some steps. Im not saying Vert is gay, but it just looks all the same to me. Some guys are super fucking gnarly at it, but for the most part i think its pretty lame. And i dont think there are any "Sheckler dick sucking homo's" here. You might want to go to one of his fifty websites to find those queers.Title: Re: Shitty Street Skaters Post by: killthegnar on April 12, 2009, 05:39:02 AM well i started to learn to skate vert yesterday. I usually skate bowls and stuff, but i thought id give vert a try, epecially since they just finished the one at fdr yesterday. But for vert only or park only people, I dont understand why they would do that to themselves. I love skating street and bowls and everything. curbs, ledges... theres so much out there to mess around on, i can imagine not at least trying all of it.
I was at fdr the other day and some kid asked about how grippy some shoes were so i said "their pretty grippy, but rip real fast once you start doing flip tricks" and he just looked at me like "what the hell is a flip trick"... i was blown away... how could someone leave that shit out? lame. |
