Go into your local skateshop (no malls or shitty clothing stores that carry a deck or two)
Talk to the guys there, just ask. If its a good shop the guys will set you up right and tell them you want to ease into it, not break the bank on your first set up. Ask about anyone making decks in the area and starting or an entry level deck.
Keep in mind, heavy is bad for a new guy, shape is a big deal too. pro decks are the pick of the litter off the molds. but a decent mid priced deck will help you wonders. I made the mistake of buying the flashiest looking deck when I started and it was heavy, stiff, and felt like i was skating a concrete slab. It wasnt until I did some more homework and alot of frustration trying to get that to pop that I bought a lighter more AMAZING deck.
Start small and cheap to get comfortable. But dont sacrifice quality because it will fuck your learning curve up. Ask the guys at the shop if they have cheap/used hardware they can sell you. If its a good shop they wont mind helping a kid get started by pitching him a used set of trucks and wheels.
Good luck and ask lots of questions. Get the guys at the shop to give you tips and pointers. dont be intimidated we were all in your position at one point or another.
