This local guy was skating a pool recently (sans Helmet) and fell from the top of the deep end. He hit his head so hard he started having a seizure. He is on a road to recovery as we speak.

If it's unfamiliar terrain, pad up.

Ask yourself, What Would Salba Do?

I'm on my third week of recovering from traumatic brain injury, I had fractured my skull and brain bleeding and 2 doctors in 2 different states told me I am very lucky to be alive, not many people live through this kind of injury.  I fell in a 6 foot deep pool apparently just dropping in, I don't know because I was knocked unconscious for 10 hours.  But hey, anything can happen, dropping in? Yep you could die, you bet your ass the first thing I did when I could use a computer was buy a helmet.  I'll be wearing one from now on.  Stop worrying about it, it's skate or die, not, die and never skate again.

Another perspective is to look at vert riders.  I know some people discount their skating but the point I'm making is they all pad up and wear helmets and that has lead to them having 30yr skating careers.  There are a few street skaters that have 20yrs in but they are few.

I've been skating for 30 years, and have hit my head a few times, luckily none too seriously. For some of those, I wish I were wearing a helmet. Hit my temple on the coping of a qp when I was 12 and could barely stand up for half an hour or so, and felt sick for much of the day. Got tripped up by a manhole going downhill at night when I was in JHS, hit my head on the road and spent an hour sitting on the curb puking. Hit the back of my head on a concrete wall last summer, and had convulsions. It's at the end of this clip:

Nothing wrong with wearing a helmet.

And remember this: if you're willing to wear something that some people think makes you look lame to do something you're into, that's the exact OPPOSITE of being a poser.

Glad you finally got that bluntslide to fakie dude...Hit your head, had a few more close calls; A lot of people would have given up. You kept at it and got what you came for. Nice.

i never skate w/o a helmet on ramps.  I have bounced my head off the ground way too many times.  its a good idea to not get brain damage

I work in the medical field and I've seen enough awful brain injuries to make me wear a helmet every time i go to a park now. I've seen people my age come in to the hospital with a head injury and leave without being able to talk or eat, and shit themselves for the rest of their lives. I'm 28 years old and just bought my first helmet a couple months ago and will probably never skate a park without one again.

i used to have the same problem. straight up i know it sucks. but think about this, the whole idea of skating is to let go and just allow yourself to be connected with the board and have fun and be ambitious, to me it didnt matter that i had to wear a helmet, or the shoes that werent cool. all i gave a fuck when i was in your position was being able to skate. and yeah it bothered me to when people made fun of me, so i basically just said fuck you im going to rock the shit out of this helmet. honestly when it comes to skating, the best thing you can do is just not give a fuck and focus on skating. as for getting out of the situation though, just gunna have to tough it out man, only reason i got to stop wearing one was because mine got run over and we never could find one big enough to fit my head hahaha pure luck. but even then skating didnt eve change that much i didnt notice the helmet wasnt there i just blended in

Land on your feet, not on your face.
