By rapture you mean the whole heaven thing I suppose.

I'll know when the time is right, we'll all know. If you worry too much about which polar opposite your going to end up at, than you depreciate the process that determines how you get to either one. So live to what is full filling in your eyes, that way if you do end up in this "glorious white fluffy cloud heaven" than your home free but if you wind up in "the twisted flames of damnation" than at least you feel better than the hardcore christian who worked their whole life to reach heaven but wound up in hell.

Explain?

Church of athieism?

i was kidding.
I thought I felt a breeze go over my head.

Religion it's self is man made. I would love to think my view on it is right, but it's most likely not, I'm just not bored enough to search for what is right and not nazi enough to tell everyone that it is right.

Rapture as it was described like this.... "Here's the clincher. If anyone believes anything about the Bible or God (like me) then you should know that "The Rapture" is commin. Most "coincidences" are starting to fall into place. Like obama being elected as president. Yeah he could only be in office for 8 years....but who's to say that when 2012 comes...a new "term" will be set in place...like let's say 20 years for every president elect. Do you understand how much Damage can be done in 20 years? Im just saying Hypothetically..if The Bible is true and the rapture is true...we will have some good years with obama. Obama is going to make EVERYONE Love him and trust him and then he's going to turn on us. And then "The Anti-christ" will come. Im not saying that Obama is the Anti Christ but he could help bring him along. This of course is all opinion and probably doesn't make any sense to any of you. but it does to me and i feel very strongly about it."

Reading that I couldn't help but think if the rest of the religious right thinks that way, we are fucked. It really sounds twisted.

Theres a prime example of why this thread is entitled "Christianity is Stupid". It's because billions of people around the world (that I get grouped in) try to preach their stories and beliefs on you and you look at them like they are crazy. If this thread was never created and I wasn't trying to distract myself from studying for my final than I would have never shared my beliefs or religion. Religion should only concern your beliefs, and your beliefs only.

Whoever posted that should probably keep that belief to themselves  Smiley

All religions are a crutch.  Some people just need bigger, stronger, fancier crutches than others.

Only sheep need shepards.
Theres a hole in your argument: I don't go to church. I pray to god every night before I go to bed and praise his name when I get a break on something. I really don't follow the big christianity guide lines one bit which allows christians to call me a hypocrite and everyone else to call me naive, ignorant, etc. when really I'm just living my life and believing what I think is true. And so do you guys.

The whole flying spagetti monster thing really makes me hate hardcore christianity alot but will never make me give up my own personal beliefs.

I'm not arguing.  Just saying that some people don't need fiction to go about their lives.  Some people believe in themselves enough not to rely upon other people (fictitious or not) or things.

I'm also confused on your stance.  It seems to me that you are saying something along the lines of; I believe in Smurfs.  I don't watch them every sunday morning on TV, but I own the bedsheet set, the action figures, and am a member of their fan club.  I realize they are only cartoons, but I love them to death.

Is that about right?

Look, if it's what makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, go on with your big bad self.  Me, I prefer booze and pussy.

Actually the thread was named that because it's the name of the Negativeland song in the video.

I thought of the song and band after reading the     "Anyone else hear about this" thread.

Exactly nothing wrong with that

And you just had to use smurfs  Cheesy. But that doesn't really work because smurfs aren't a theory. I guess what I'm trying to say is: I have my own religion made for me and by me.

i'm a christian...

it shouldnt bum anyone out... if you're a real christian, then if you're trying to 'convert' someone, it's not because you're better than them, its because you want them to experience the same joy

i think it's pretty obvious that there's a creator, but its 'mainstream' to be athiest nowadays  Undecided

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."  -Matthew  22:36-40

There you have it from the man himself.  These two things are all that matter.  everything else in the Bible is bullshit.

my mom is a minister. she's super religious (obviously) but she knows that I am not. and she doesn't push it on me ever. and that is a good thing - I never give her crap for all the problems religion has caused and she never gives me crap for being non-religious. it is a non-issue in our relationship and that's the way it should be.

arguing about religion has happened continuously for hundreds of years without any success for either side.

I think the most important thing is to believe what you believe, and not push your beliefs onto others.

i could be wrong, but it sounds to me more like you believe in god then it sounds like you are christian. being a christian comes with that whole package of rituals and man-made things and rules and cult stuff. believing in god is just that, with all the garbage stripped out. but if you need a label, that is all you.

I'd certainly say that I subscribe to a majority of the bible and It's teachings but as far as it's practices...not so much.

Also, I just can't get around the whole creation thing. One would argue that the big bang happened but created time? You can't expect something that complex to be there just because. It's a headache to think about if you take in account that there is no higher being.
