Masochist!

A month of water just feels like torture to me. And you're only gonna be able to skate it for a week before you have to fill it up again for the family's summer fun time.

I tip my hat to you and I feel your pain

We took over the Sarasota Skate Park from the city with the mission to eliminate the user fees at the park, we're now calling it P(A)YNE Skate Park. This art was just added by Sofia Maldonado to help bring exposure to our cause. If anyone is ever in Sarasota, come shred!

I've worked in construction since I was 14 and the one thing I know is that a good construction worker only does what they're told to do. So if the Boss Man doesn't see your DIY then nothing will be done about it. Good luck! I hope you get a good summer out of it.

Success.  A big thank you to Eby for coming up on his Friday night to help me out, and for shaping the landing to catch you perfectly.  A couple construction workers, night guards I guess, watched us do most of it and didn't say shit to us.  I don't know if it will last long, as its right next to the entrance to one part of what's being worked on and the construction is progressing a lot.  Both barriers are way more grindable now, but they are slick as fuck with the paint on them, you have to carve onto them, and the traffic is right next to you, so its still a challenge to make your trick.  First session on it yesterday, I got a couple shitty backside grinds, but couldn't bring the 5-0 into the landing with both feet on the board, and ended up going to back-lip and eating shit everytime I tried to throw my weight into the back smith grind.  Something to work on tomorrow.

I started a blog of all off the beaten path spots around LA and SoCal. I put my board down at every spot and its all great stuff.  So far the response has been great.  If you're in LA and need to get a few tricks on a spot that isn't ABD'd to death then check it out:  www.caliskatespots.com

Cheers,

Your spot was epic while it lasted! What was its name so I can give it a proper R.I.P.?

I did blogged it in case you didn't know. I was in LA and too drunk to remember anything that I'd did...

I hope this doesn't kill your DIY spirit because your experience is the type of thing that skateboarding needs. Some true hands on work and complete DIY dedication

We need to keep looking and keep skating no matter what the real world is doing...

Its not really dead, just relocated and renovated.  I hadn't thought about naming it...96th and Shred?

Both chunks of concrete were still there, loose.  I placed the smaller one against the barrier essentially where it was before, as it still pretty much fits, and put the other on the backside, as it kind of fits there, and that side is currently blocked from traffic.  Now you have a landing if you want to try and transfer that shit, as that side is pretty much all vert.  Its almost more fun now as it is steeper and there's no crack between it and the flat, so you don't need an assisted landing.  There is some unavoidable chunkiness in the runway right before you carve into it, but I kind of like that, its just distracting enough to prevent you from overthinking what you are doing.  I'm debating bondoing the pieces I've got, or re-creting part of the spot, and maybe something else in the vicinity.  Its like a jersey barrier village down there.
