also, our government is responsible for what happened here, not in south america...however, those weren't even independent countries anyway. they were settlements by european countries, so those european countries should be accountable for what happened there. we were an independent nation and thus our governments owes an apology.

Most AA's know about how they were treated during slavery whereas most hispanic countries like to pretend that there was no slavery in their countries. The spanish taught them to despise "pure" africans and "pure" natives. In Latin America, if you have a teensy bit of white rape blood, you can be considered white or biracial even though most AA's have a teensy bit of white rape blood. Black latinos/mulatto latinos and mestizo latinos/native latinos look up to their oppressors while AA's look down on them.

Well, I do reject the notion that I should be made fun of because of the color of my skin.  Just because someone fucked up yesterday doesn't make an act of aggression right today.

No one is more aggravated by the notion of racism than me.  I see the harm that it causes on both a local and global level.  It harms the weak and makes everyone easier to control by the powers that be.  I don't really see how poking fun at my apparently inherent inability to dance helps anyone.

There was a quote from Preacher where Jesse Custer says "Why is it the greatest champions of the white race are always the worst examples of it?".  True enough.  I think it works both ways, though.  The very existence of a channel like BET reads like an open letter to the world that says "We are not part of the human race.  Please treat us differently."  I wouldn't let BET speak for me...EVER.  Anyone preying upon people's ignorance the way they do is a public menace and should be taken to task along with the slave traders.  (If that were possible.  Which it's not.  'Cause, you know, they're dead.)

Lastly, the idea presented by the thread is that our government is apologizing for it's actions.  It's a nice idea since they certainly spent many years fucking up.  I, on the other hand, don't have a god damned thing to apologize for.

You're equating a joke with an "act of aggression"?  Interesting.    Do you ever notice that BET has other programming on it?     I mean I know it must seem like one big "stomp whitey" out channel to you but seriously?    This is the second time you've equated BET with slave trading.    Completely baffles me.

BET.....black owned(probably not).    Allows some broad generalizations about white men can't dance.   Boo hoo.     ABC, NBC, CBS, HBO, Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, MTV2, and EVERY other channel other than O, is white owned and operated.    With broad generalized jokes appearing throughout all of the about white people dancing (presumably this is OK if you're hearing it from a white guy), black people thugging, asians being good at math.............seriously........they're jokes.     Seriously, the writer for Chapelle is as white as day but people that aren't stuck on the race card (both white and black), see the comedy in Tyrone Biggins, or the black white supremist.

Yes, I equate jokes told to millions of people that they expect people to hate and fear other people for no good reason to being an act of aggression.  I perceive BET as being a "stomp darkie out" station.  It furthers a white majority agenda better than a nazi rally ever could.

Reasons why BET is like the american portion of the slave trade:

1 - It buys and sells black people.

Okay, that's the only one I have but I think it's fairly relevant.  My ideas are radical, awesome, and explosive.  I am no longer surprised when they baffle people.


Comic View is one of the worst shows on television.  It perpetuates awful myths about people under the false guise of entertainment.  Comparing it to Chappelle's show is apples to oranges.  The worst part about it and the thing I, personally, hate is the fact that %90 of the acts on Comic View aren't funny.  I have jokes about race that aren't racist.  Some of them are even based on stereotypes but they play on a sense of irony which none of the jokes on Comic View do.  Call me when these guys learn to write.

I'm all for laughing at myself but I don't like being lumped in with anyone being described as being either uncool or an oppressor.  I am neither.  I don't see how it is childish to decry awful comedy with a hateful message.  I am a critic, in this instance.  I've told hacky, black acts the moment they walk off stage how little I appreciate their idiotic hate mongering.  I don't think the finger's pointed at me, it's pointed at everyone.
