You cant really hate the game but the players.

All i see when i go down to the park is kids getting psyched about game of skate and they think that this game is short of the meter of skateboarding skills. The fuss around this game made the majority of young kids just skate  flat and this sucks ball. Not to mention kids that can barely ollie and push and try flips and tre flips, this is fucked up.

Shredding..

SKATE is lame and boring. You get good at skating by having fun, not by some silly game. A good skater is the dude that is having the most fun doing it, not the mechanical have to win competition trick robot.  Imagine watching the Dogtown Z Boys documentary and they break in to a game of SKATE.

SKATE just another nail in the coffin..  *weep*

times change. now that there's about a kajillion flatground tricks, playing skate is a good way to step out of your comfort zone and learn some new shit. kids will always try to find a way to quantify things. yeah, its kinda sad when kids get obsessed with it, but at least they're skateboarding.

and dude, if you think the z-boys weren't about competition and one-upping each other, you really need to watch the movie again.

I see that  most of them compete only in one aspect of skateboarding(flatground) and this is not right. Sometimes some kids play it over ledges with grind tricks and gaps, this is really good. Just dont stick with the flat ground make it happen elsewere too.

Dtotherob in my town there arent many people skating so we the older guys look after the younger skaters and advise them around tricks and whatever. So sometimes i really see how young people see skateboarding today, which is way different than it was yesterday due to the internet. In their age we had 1-2 videos a year and now they have 1-2 videos a day with youtube so this means many influences.

I think it takes away from the creative side of skating, people getting obsessed with keeping up trick wise instead of breaking the norms... And of course the Zephyr team wanted to win. Look at the teams they had to "compete" against. The Z team was pushing the limits and each other creating new shit.

How about the kids who can barely push, much less bomb a hill, that can do 20 flip tricks... I'm probably just old and jaded but as I've said, it bores the shit out of me. Fuckin freestylers..  Wink

But what do I know I still get stoked to skate a real halfpipe.

Yeap you are right, the only thing we can do is advise them because we did many things wrong and few things right back then cause we were skating in an era that hardly anyone was skating. So i expect them do it the way they want but  not to make the same mistakes with us! For example overlearning flat because they play game of skate and suck everywhere else!
