Well it depends my friend omni! For me skateboarding is exploiting everything riding your skateboard or at least try, in order to have fun. Well if you are exploiting the flat ground ONLY for me you are not skateboarding you skate flatground.

Flatground is where it all starts for all kids that first pick up a skateboard, to tell a kid he isnt skateboarding cause hes not jumping down some stairs is so dumb.  I skate more then flatground if you were wondering

Yeah and the sky is blue. Flatground and grind ledges is the basic stuff(which is LEARNING). Then you do the flat ground tricks on tranny or gaps or whatever and the grind tricks on rails and whatever(which is FUN). The problem starts when they know 20 flat tricks and they can barely 50-50 and yes if you play 90 game of skates per day you wont learn grind tricks. And if you dont learn grind tricks you are missing a whole bunch of things.

Note: One of my  best friends was a skatenerd he used to do really crazy things flat ground and he could just fs  50-50 ledgewise. I told him that he misses a lot of stuff this way he was also like dude i am doing what i want piss off. Well few months ago he learnt some more tricks on ledges and he was really psyched about being able to skate spots in another way too. "Dude i wonder why i was skating the past years i couldnt fully use the spots we skated and i was bored easily" he told me.

you know whats really "not right?" expecting kids to do things the way we did it.

Yeap you are right, the only thing we can do is advise them because we did many things wrong and few things right back then cause we were skating in an era that hardly anyone was skating. So i expect them do it the way they want but  not to make the same mistakes with us! For example overlearning flat because they play game of skate and suck everywhere else!

"mistakes?" what the fuck are you talking aboot? sounds to me like you're making rules and saying kids are doing it wrong.

here. i found a new avatar for you. you can thank me later.

When i say that i mean we advise them how to be better, yes there are no rules but there are some tips.  For example a lot of kids are trying flip tricks and they forget that the most basic is ollies and 180s(switch or not),if u control them 100% chances are you can control any trick you learn in the future that well. Me myself i was jealous of guys in videos and for a long time i thought that learning a lot of flip tricks was the most important, but i had 0 control in every trick.

all im saying is that most kids get into skateboarding because there's no rules, and dudes like you seem to forget that.

sure it's a bummer seeing kids trying flailflips when they can't ollie yet, but who cares? they're having fun. is it somehow hurting your ability to have fun on your skateboard?

if it bums you out that much, and you really have to, go over to them and explain how much easier flip tricks are once you have a solid ollie. show them some tips.

but for the most part, just kindly shut the fuck up and let the kids have their fun. most of them will quit skating once they discover its painful and difficult, anyway.

YEah thats why we give them tips to make it easier for them so that they dont give up as there are not many people skating around here. I am not like obsessed with kids but when THEY ask me to teach them they have to listen or else why should i  bother?

Not in my town. Its a town of 100,000 and there are 10 kids skating and the grownups are 6 including me. We are pretty much the black sheeps.
