I've never really ever understood the whole "Skate Clothes" culture. I understand the shoes, theyre durable and designed to skate in, but the Ralph Mouths and shit, its just weird. Sure I wear a lot of Ralph Mouths, but I buy them all from Walmart for like 5-10 bucks a pop. And I buy levis on the cheap from thrift stores or the salvation army. I would rather spend my money on gear that I need like a new deck or whatever I need.

A lot of these skate companies these days are promoting too much of an image. Skateboarding isn't about how you're dressed doing it, and thats what I think a lot of the younger generation of skaters coming up don't necessarily understand. You skate because you love it, not because of how you dress. Shit half the clothes you wear skating are gonna get trashed so why would you wanna spend $50 on a Ralph Mouth, or $80 on some jeans?

Fuck that, wear whats comfortable, don't worry about fashion, as thats not what skating is about. If you're comfortable spending a shit ton of money on clothes, do it, but don't feel obligated to do it.

For some reason,
f1annels= Ralph Mouths

Advertising where young kids can see it works, since most kids are looking to establish a unique Identity as an individual. Teenagers and stuff.

Cutoff Jeans,plastic shades, half on beanies,f1annels,baseball tees. Fads are cool and desirable too in certain circles of people.

Clothes are relatively cheap in America too. You could go into consumerism and all that.

That's what kids are trying to make it look like they're doing. I don't blame them though, most of us feel like we belong in and to skateboarding and that's just another way of identifying yourself as a skateboarder.

No I understand that, but I'm just saying you can "belong" to skateboarding without having to drop big bucks on money.

all my tees are concert, or from a shop.  i like to pick up a tee from some of the local shops in town's i've visited.  i don't have a problem spending money on "skate" clothes.  i'll buy jeans or a hoody from my local shop because that's what keeps them in business.

plus my wife wont let me wear ratty shit.  i can buy a dece pair of volcom jeans and wreck them skateboarding though. she's ok with that.  shit's like a uniform.  you can always tell a "real" skater from a mall jock. i'll always wear skate stuff.

There's wicked ass thrift shops in Albuquerque for some reason. Maybe all the yuppies in sNob Hill? There's also a pretty cool ass shop called Buffalo Exchange where you can slang your gear that you don't wear.

you mean expensive ass thrift stores...I like Albuquerque, but I guess I've been spoiled by how dirt cheap thrift stores are in Michigan.

there's a buffalo exchange here, too.  Got some cool shit in there.  The owners must be making bank.

but yeah, wtf@$50 Ralph Mouths.  That shit boggles my mind.  And I watch people buy that shit allllll day long.  R'tarded.

Personally all my clothes are hand me downs... i have a few "skate" tee's but i don't wear them to skate until i stain them or they get really faded. Mostly i wear old shirts that are abstract, spark my interest, or are funny... Goodwills are great places to find cheap shirts that you won't get clowned on for.

Ugh - spending money on expensive clothing hurts but sometimes you just have to do it.  I buy expensive clothes for work and the occasional special event (wedding, funeral, meeting, etc.).  If its going to last a long time and looks good, I consider it an investment.

Skate clothing wise, I have some shirts and shoes I get discounted from my local shop but the rest of my non work wardrobe is from Costco and whatever sales I happen to come across.
