my parents weren't against skateboarding but they were against what they called the "irresponsible image that professional skateboarding represents" and the fact that I was "trespassing on private property which is against our civic duty as citizens"
then when I was 12 they caught me reading an interview with an alcoholic sock puppet on the Enjoi website and it went downhill from there

My parents hated it. And they still do. I'm 22 now and you'd think it would be ok for me to do my own thing, but it isn't. If they come over to my apartment and a deck is out, my dad flips shit. Its been the same way for the last 10 years. My dad says it "Stunts my emotional growth"...

People think I'm weird.

Yet my Mom bought me my first complete.

I'm 17,so I guess people guess I skate.but when you get older,I can understand how people will give you a look. My dad just says "don't get hurt". They're cool with it,something positive to do with my time.

my parents didn't mind it at first. but a 9 year old on a banana board isn't much of a threat. i was also on a hockey, soccer and ski team. they divorced when i was 10 and that's when the hate started.  they couldn't afford that shit anymore and skateboarding quickly became my focus.

my dad's new kids were part of  it. privileged rich kids.  as a teen i always got shit from him about skating.  really nice thing to do when you have limited custody.  regardless of my skateboarding achievements, if you will, he still looks down on it, and me, as well as my tattoo's. lame.

mom was way better. she liked that i had decent friends, something to keep me occupied, but hated that i would go skating downtown.   she still thinks it's somewhat "childish", but appreciates my love for it. i think she just hates hearing about my injuries. they are also a couple of old fashioned brits. i'm also 34 years old now. neither one of them has ever bought me anything skate related, save for the odd magazine.

sorry for the long post. is my hour up already?

My mom was always pretty supportive.  Even when I came home with the "masked penis from venus" board that shorty's did a long time ago.  Her response to that was: "At least he's wearing a condom I guess".  She's just pretty mellow in general.  My dad has never discouraged me from doing it.  I'm sure he disapproves of most everything that I do though, considering he's in the FBI.  I didn't exactly turn out how he had planned.  alack.

My parents never cared, except my dad would get pissed for me spending my money
on new decks, wheels, etc.  But no they really don't give a shit one way or the other.

I'm 17

That explains a lot.

My parents opinion on skateboarding? Well im not a little middle class white boy like most of you. I never knew my dad and my mom worked from 5 am to 9 pm every day just to support us. I grew up on the streets with nothing but a pair of shitty vans and a cracked skateboard.
