I am convinced that taking slams is as much a part of it as actually landing shit.  Once your body gets accustomed to being slapped against the concrete like an overzealous teabag, falls become somewhat invigorating.  It's like a hit of wasabi that burns initially but once you've dusted off, the andrenaline surge smooths everything over.  To wear pads all the time is the equivelant of being the asshole that rubs down with disinfectant everytime they touch a door knob.

isn't that a bible verse?

It wasn't a direct quote but little baby jesus is near and dear to my heart so some vernacular from the psalms may have creeped in.  Now bend over so I can go all catholic priest on your rectory.

So I get all padded up (wrist guards & elbow pads) and attempt a backside wall ride.  I come down without my board and my ankle flops over.

I'm glad to say that I skated some tranny a bit after the injury, but now I'm down for a while as it doesn't look tasty at all.

Here I was back in 1988 when I was sixteen, which makes me turning
38 this year.  Once a skater always a skater.

It makes logical sense to be fully padded with wristguards and everything. So why don't we?

Maybe it's the fact that I just hit 30, but I am not afraid to admit that I occasionally sneak in kneepads under my pants because I suck bad enough and eat shit often enough to make it worth it.

Haha, slamming also weeds out a lot of people too.  Sticking with it = taking slams.

That said, slamming sucks  Grin

Gonna hit the big 30 here in a few weeks.  Its a good time for my skating's progression.  I'm now old and experienced enough to have spread what little skating talent I have thin enough to say I'm mediocre at everything.  I live in NYC now, so I work a lot, and I have an infant daughter too, so I spend a lot of time with her, but I work for a cool company and have a cool girlfriend, so I get to skate on my lunch break, evenings, and weekends.  There are some benefits to being an older skater.  I get to skate where I want, cops and security may kick me out, but they don't get away with fucking with me, and I know my limitations well enough to not get too hurt too often.   For me the downside includes less pop, more responsibilities (and the related always skating alone because I don't have time to coordinate with anyone else's schedule), and the 20 some years of memories of rolled ankles, broken teeth, concussions, sprained/broken wrists, and strained knees which distract me from my trick while I'm skating a stair set.  I find every aspect of skating as rewarding now as I did 15 years ago, although probably more so because I have a greater appreciation of being able to skate now that I also have an adult's responsibilities to deal with.  That said, I won't skate to work, only back to work after I'm done skating!

good to hear, but 33 year old's shouldn't say "sk8", or shorten words like "are".

I am not sure if it's quite the same thing but I frequently use the term "masterb8ing" when I am perusing Myspace and AOL chat rooms for ass.

Typing full words can be intimidating sometimes.
