Am I the only one that cleans bearings around here?

i used to, but now i can't be bothered.  if i'm taking bearings out of wheels, i'm replacing them.

But think of the cost savings!1
ever take bearings out of an old set of SPFs? not worth the effort unless their expensive bearings. otherwise i cant be bothered.

Check me down as a +1 in the "who gives a fuck, they're just bearings" column but...

I recently had a pair of Reds crap out on me and, in a moment of frugality, I popped in an old generic set of bearings that I had sitting around.  I figured I would just blow 'em out and then go back to something fancier.  Fuck that, they rolled miserably slow on my garage mini where I to need to maintain all the speed I can get.

In my opinion, anything Reds and above feels the same with negligable differences.  I am game for a nice pair of ceramics because they'll roll forever and may be a little smoother but you could buy so many sets of Reds for the same price that it evens out.

This is me talking about interesting things.

I can't do that, I feel for guilty for being wasteful not to mention I'm a bit OCD about taking care of nice things I have in general.  Also, I've seemed to really appreciate the bearing as I got older.  It really is an integral part of the skateboard... has soul like your trucks....  Haha wait, there goes my nerdy ocd again.

I've always cleaned all of my bearings semi-regularly whether they were cheap or not. Clean, well lubed bearings always roll better than dirty ones no matter how much they cost.

Same.  Every few weeks I take em out, clean em with industrial bearing cleaner and lube them up before putting them back in.

i'll easily rip through 4-5 sets of wheels and bearings in a year.  spittys and reds for cost beats ceramics any day, for me.  i skate to get away from daily shit.  i maintain vehicles daily so maintaining my skateboard is the last thing i want to do. but i can appreciate the nerdyness.

i give my old wheels away. i'll let the kids swap out a bearing or 2 if needed.

If Thomas is too stengy to give me any, I usually just take em out of the wheel and put them in a jar of Gasoline, lowest octane you can get, for you 87 octane, I think, if your in Europe, get 95. Shake them for a bit and then put them back in.

If I get new ones, I just take whatever isn't selling well. Which at the moment are those baker ones in the prescription thing.

sometimes i like to clean my bearings when i'm just sitting at home doing nothing anyway. open a beer, pop in a dvd and fiddle with bearings, petroleum and oil for an hour. it's relaxing and you have faster bearings the next day.
