IM telling you, the problem with skate video contests is no one enters... Lets say we give a week for best 30 second montage of wallrides-who's in?

video contests have to be a month long thing.  It could run congruently, but not soley.

1 week scavenger hunt with the answer being a 1 week photo hunt without being told the correct answer.

followed by a 2 week 'create a cover for Mindfield' photoshop contest.

And the video contest runs through all 4 weeks.

i'm down for that. but a month is a long time to film for a mere 30 seconds on one type of terrain. how about at least a 60 second montage.

ps...photohunts and scavenger hunts are still boring...how about a photo scavenger hunt contest (not a best photo since photogs will win that one) where you have to find and photograph things that you have to look for in real life, not online.

for example, round one:
get a photo of someone doing a frontside wallride on a non-cemented barrier
get a photo of the kinkiest handrail you can find
get a photo of to people skating the same obstacle at the same time (doubles)
photo of someone doing a natural drop in
photo of your favorite non-blown out spot

these all have to be your own photos, not ones grabbed off the internet, if it is found out that they were, you are disqualified. perhaps the things get harder for each round (1 or 2 rounds a week). instead of each thing revealing a clue, it just helps keep you in the game. only the people that complete each round get to move on to the next round. the last round can be judged based on quality (of spots, tricks, effort, etc.) with the winner(s) being chosen by thrasher. the benefit of this is that not only do a lot of people have a chance to enter, but nobody is going to be able to get a head and discourage all others, like the photo hunts do, for the first round. AND it is something that would be worth following along as a viewer, even if you aren't playing or didn't advance a round (unlike the photo hunts, sure they get a lot of posts, but they don't get very many page views outside of from the contestants themselves).

Im telling you, we got to keep shit more simple. That's why the photo hunts work. Its easy for everyone to find photos of one dude and plaster em up on the site... Im down to try and get another video contest going too though... But for today, I think we gonna go with yet another PHOTO HUNT contest... Who and what time it will start, still to be determined...

people would enter, you just have to promote it on more than just junk drawer. promote it on slap, on skatedaily, on the 'tap. if you plan one accordingly, you can even put something in the mag about it, in place of those giveaways for joining the mailing list or whatever. you have a whole page talking about winning a fred gall deck and some indies if you join the mailing list. at the very least, sent out something to that mailing list telling them to enter.

btw, bailgun, that spot that freddie is skating on the page i am talking about in the mag is the spot i was telling you jerry made and lost his board in the river on the other side doing the same trick. the photo doesn't do the spot justice, but footage would.

30 seconds with t-eddy style awards. That way everyone can enter and possibly win something, even a sticker pack. Not like "douchy McGee - whoever", more like "best use of a random piece of plywood - whoever"

Damn, do the mindfield cover!!!  I'm not great at photoshop but I like to do shit that I can at least try and get creative with.

If you run a logo contest along with it, I don't see why anyone on this message board can't enter.  You don't have to be good at photoshop or illustrator or anything.  Just fuckin use PAINT.  Just get a stencil or template or whatever of what you want the contest to do be of and then everyone saves it and works on it.

Or give everyone a blank shirt and let them slap whatever they want on it as long as it says thrasher.

I think winter is a great time for contests like these, where as the other months are better for skate contests probably cause more people will go out, instead of more people staying inside where they could make mindfield covers  Grin

I don't ever see me entering a photo hunt cause I know there's going to be someone on the internet way longer than me scavenging (which they deserve to win then) so if it's a week long contest and I go do shit a few days then I feel like I'm not gonna have much of a chance.  With the creative stuff, it's not like that.  As long as you have one day to put effort into it you'll have a chance.
