I believe the inability for most skaters to accept change and evolve with the times, is what's wrong with skateboarding.

I was evolving with the times when I was 14, but I was so good at it that I quickly ran out of adaptive ability. Now I'm stuck with tensors and a lib-tech board... Still, so glad that I never just did what I wanted on a skateboard and instead made sure to strictly follow the current trends. At least I have a trend, even if it's no longer current...

I agree with you ted people are unable to keep up with the upcoming trends and most of the people want to see the latest trend not the old one.

When I was in highschool my older friend told me that in Vancouver all the best skaters did ecstacy before skating, because it made everything slow down and you could pretty much land any trick that way. So I guess that could be another mode of becoming amazing at skateboarding. Just look at me - never tried it, never went ultrapro!

What I'm suggesting is - the problem with skateboarding is the lack of any substantial drug intake by the average skateboarder.
