you would never understand why videos like that were cool back then, for all the bullshit mtv puts out, they have never been kind to metal, that video was one of the few metal vids that got air time during the day, i know it's not the best video ever but whatever, it's still awesome listening to Cannibal on tv during the middle of the day.

I don't mind CC, but it's still boring compared to some of the shit thats out there, it's not tight, cause the MTV wanted to be hip for a couple of months. The sound became generic. Just like most of the Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords stuff. I'm old, I understand "Back Then." Who really needs to hear another band that sounds like Lagwagon/NOFX?

Speaking of back then. Now.......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMDEJOoFw1c

GODS!

i'm doubting how much were you into music "back then" as Cannibal Corpse was pretty different from the rest of the Metal bands around the time that video came out, damn dude that's straight hate i'm from LA watching so many of the bands from epi/fatwreck out there at the time was amazing, besides how many bands were actually like Lagwagon? i mean seriously i question how much you were into music "back then" Lagwagon played almost metal they had the best punk drummer ever (Derrick Plourde RIP) and NOFX kickstarted a lot a stuff yes some bands tried to emulate their style but the bands that sucked disappeared, you can't even compare Lagwagon back then to the rest of the bands because they were pretty much on their own, the only band that came kinda close to what they were doing was Strung Out, and even then they have always been pretty unique bands.

It's just it seem the Epi/Fat stuff always seems to have the same production sound. And that sound is just tired nowadys. I've seen a lot of those bands when they would come and play "Marti's" a club in Mankato in the early 90's. Hate and reality are two different things. Your probably a few years older than me and I really didnt start really getting in to punk/HC/Speedmetal until around 1983 so I know I missed the boat on a lot of greats. Luckily I did get to see stuff like Black Flag, The Ramones, Circle Jerks, DRI..... ect.

There was so much more diversity Flipper, Bad Brains, Crucifix, Bad Posture, The Replacements,  ect..... not to mention all the predecessors, like the Stooges, NY Dolls, Television, Blondie, Rocket From The Tombs, The Pagans, The Weirdos, ect.

The was lots of good stuff "back then" metal wise. Deicide, Slayer, Possessed, Excel, Beowulf, and others. Remember the old Scott Ian "Headbangers Ball?"
MTV even tried being cool on Sunday nights when they aired "I.R.S' The Cutting Edge"

the same production values?, maybe it had to do with having Ryan Greene producing some of those cds from 93 til 98 maybe? i can't get why you insist on taking bands out of context, if you take the time frame out of certain songs or bands they can all sound like whatever besides that a lot of those bands didn't even sound alike when they played live or even on their own records, that's like the people that say that Pennywise sounds like Bad Religion....
those two bands have never sounded close to each other.

and yeah that's straight hate because you are trying to judge bands totally out of context instead of using the actual years those bands where at their peak.

that's like me saying all those bands you mentioned sound like shit and their "sound is tired nowadays" because it really is, but i'm smart enough to not do that.

you talk about diversity, and that's in the eye of the beholder dude, there was a lot of diversity around the 90s cali punk rock scene. just to state an example Operation Ivy, Descendents, NOFX if there isn't enough diversity around those 3 bands then i can't see what you feel diversity is.

now you talk about there was a lot of good metal yes i don't doubt that but we're talking about videos here because that's how this thread was started right? and i posted a video from 94 if my shitty memory helps right? let's see

Deicide had legion out which is my fave album from them, but did they have a video out? i think not unless my memory fails me.

Slayer had Divine Intervention out, not having Dave Lombardo on the drums is a huge turn off for me on slayer (yes Lombardo was on Grip Inc. by the time Divine Intervention dropped), besides the fact that Slayer after all is a thrash metal band not as extreme as having some death metal band on tv playing blast beats.

Possessed was done so no point bringin them up did they ever had a video? me thinks not.

Excel and Beouwulf? really? if at least you would've said some of the technical Death metal bands from NY or melodic death metal bands like In Flames or Dark Tranquillity

and no i'm pretty sure i'm younger than you, prolly a lot younger than what you think the thing is i'm a musician, i've played the guitar in a few metal/progressive/punk bands ever since i was a teen. so the time i didn't/don't spend skateboarding or with the girlfriend i spend it either practicing, rehearsing or listening to music. But yeah i was old enough to enjoy the last peak our scene had. I actually grew up on cali thrash metal as a kid, and then as a teenager during the early 90s my love for punk rock magnified because when i started i wanted to play like metallica on  the justice album but by the time i could play people only wanted to play slow black album or nirvana bullshit. so the speed and technicallity of punk saved me from musical boredom
