GILBERT CROCKETT
Interview: Robinson | Photos: Shigeo

In one year and two months’ time, Gilbert Crockett’s life has been rocked by a hurricane, wrapped in an earthquake, and nestled into a box of tsunamis. Gilbert arrived at Black Box as a naïve 16-year-old from Richmond, VA, and immediately received a crash course in life. Whether it be moving to the opposite side of the country, working for the first time, traveling abroad, or producing a stand-out video part in the new Mystery video, Black & White, one thing is for certain: Crockett-Man has come an awful long way from living with Gretchen, Garland, Melvin, and Dixie the dog in The Old Dominion.

What’s with the name Gibbler the Midnight Nibbler?
Right off the bat? I gotta think about this one…Well basically, I was messing with Mike Sinclair one day when we were out skating, and I told him that I heard he liked it when other dudes nibbled on his ear while he was asleep. And that’s when Gibbler the Midnight Nibbler came on, ’cause people thought I was into that sort of thing.

Talk about backfire. Was there any Gibbler action with this girl in China that I heard about?
I plead the fifth.

So you’re not gonna talk about it at all? Then tell us a good story from the Mystery China trip, aside from you introducing a fine young lass to the Midnight Nibble.

The photographer, Rodent, had some Russian girls come to the hotel, and he told me not to tell anyone else from the team ’cause he didn’t want the other dudes hoarding in on his girls. As soon as he told me, I just went in the other room and told those dudes he was trying to hold off on the chicks, and they were going to be there in 15 minutes. So uh, Jimmy Carlin waited ’til he heard the girls in the hallway, then he got ass naked and ran out screaming, “Where are my clothes?!” The chicks left the building immediately and the photographer was super pissed.
