Jake came down with this 1997 gem today... "The end of Plan B means the end of vert. Think vert sucks? Check Colin McKay and Danny Way going to work on the old Plan B ramp. Hesh vs fresh? Who fucking cares? Tailgrab 7, three-flip 5-0 for real. Metal Militia, Four Horsemen, ahhhh PS: How'd that Madonna taste?"

Danny Way is hands down the greatest all around skateboarder ever. Nobody is really even close.

25 tricks you'll never pull
Posted by skatanic | November 14, 2007 12:54 AM
Danny is the best all around skater ever. That original Plan B team was the best team ever. I got to get The Revolution on DVD. The best part is that it's 10 years old! People still can't do those tricks!!!

Gnarly skating.Would be rad if they bike'd instead of drove their cars around too.Ever had a nice bike getting stolen.I did, biking was never the same since.I was killing buses with that thing for real, but.I was careless, used a cheap lock.Hapens.Locked it downtown, away for thirty minutes, came back, the bike was gone. Was an alpine star, ninety three model.Best bike I've ever had.Biking was fun.Seriously.It was a mountainbike.

Mountain Bikes Suck
Danny Way is insane

back in 84 I had rockers chase me dressed like that and in a gnarly mustang too. I was skating some curbs by the mall and they pulled up, jumped out and the chase was on. I ran in the mall and hid in the clothing cirlce hanger things and they were seriously running around the store looking for me. Then that same week some other rockers drove their car up my quarter pipe in fromt of my house and demolished it. I went to the guys house with gas and lit his skateboard on fire on his front yard. fucking rockers weren't cool.

I just heard a REI commercial on the radio. It says "720 tailgrabs are in". Way to be on top of it Jake.

The pretend "hesh" stuff almost looked more fun than all those insane tricks. It's too bad that the best vert skaters in the world (danny and colin) turned their backs on and mocked all the vert lovers who didn't have the narrow fashion sense to go get a bunch of Polo jeans and drill shove-it to nose slide variations all day. Even stranger, 17-year-old kids getting sponsored today as "transition skaters" because they can do lipslides in the deep end and shitty inverts. The level of transition skating has fallen so far for the average skater, and then shot off in this other bizarre direction (mega-ramps, Dew Tours, etc.) for this other tiny group. It's crazy to see danny and colin, who were probably 19 or 20, rip the ramp that hard. If skating hadn't gotten so divided and cliquey it would be interesting to see where transition skating would be today. It's great that some of the new kids are into it, but it seems like, progression wise, they're mostly playing catch-up. It's sad to think the future of vert may lie in the hands of the fuckin' Flying Tomato.

its just skating, let it happen. hasn't vert always been kinda underground? let it stay there. plus, if you haven't noticed, anything above two feet is not cool. p.s., i'm not very serious here.

Vert or street, I skate whatever is in front of me. Stop the ignorance. The basis upon which all of skating is built is there no matter what. With all these parks having bowls, quarters, and minis vert will not die. The X-games will make sure it doesn't happen so they can still make cash off it. They think street skating is less marketable for TV--Sad but true.

VERT=FIGURE SKATING
Posted by GOONSAC | November 14, 2007 11:43 AM
that was a shitload better then watch some street spot where the skater lands then hits a wall or grass, good music, good skaters, good video! keep that shit coming!

Its time for Thrasher online to go back... GO back and post some slalom, downhill, and the occasional barrel jump and/or hippie jump.
Posted by money grip | November 14, 2007 12:51 PM
inverts are gymnastics.
Posted by jason | November 14, 2007 1:26 PM
The shittiest part of today's state of vert is that, nowaday's you only see "vert" skaters skate vert. PLG, Shaun White, Bucky, Sandro, etc. only get coverage at contests or Bob's backyard. Danny is the fucking man because he can do it ALL!
Then on the flipside you have rippers like Hewitt (SOY!)and Navarette fucking shit up on a regular basis and don't give a shit about contests and fame. Shit, TNT could be a great vert head if he wanted to.
And just because it's not made of wood...or skatelite, doesn't mean it's not vert...

Skating is what you make it. Quit all your bitching and/or crying.

Posted by keith Eric Davidson | November 14, 2007 2:34 PM
Switch back tail shove!! Stupid! Yeah this is probably the best vert part ever, so fresh to watch this even though it's ten years old, vert just seems so stale these days.
Posted by g | November 14, 2007 2:56 PM
Shitty music. Can we go to the mall now? Vert hell sux.
Posted by Brandon Beebz | November 14, 2007 2:57 PM
Butt that would be two words.
Posted by dick cheney | November 14, 2007 3:06 PM
Some good points.. some decent dialogue. Nice. Especially the bit about how every street banger seems to roll away 2 ft.before hitting a wall or grass. You can't help where they placed the rail; but still.. I'd like to see them roll away happy. Skating will never totally die, but I hope the level of public interference dies down a bit. Also, that mall fashion finds a new avenue to explore. The beer motif is sorta played.. maybe wine cooler-based video series next?

that entire video kicks ass, that mother fucker is in my VCR right now! Wray's part in that video is amazing too. I think Danny does a fakie 720 mctwist!?!? In 97 are you kidding me. I remember in some old 411 vid(before they were gay) danny did a switch mctwist, that was a long time ago.
Posted by DRUNK | November 15, 2007 9:30 AM
Yeah, Danny & Colin pretty much took vert as far as it can go in that video. Thats why Danny had to move on to something new with the mega. I remember going to that premier in downtown SD. Rodney was still on the team & had a part in the video. Then before it was actually released, Danny & Colin broke away from Rocco & Rodney's part was taken out. To me, Jake Brown is the only one left really innovating on vert; doing never before done tricks. And he looks good doing it. Carry the torch! Awww, memories.
