I usually don't care about the skateboarder popularity contest but... Drehobl may be my personal fav. because he is a heap of shit that I can relate to, but MJ is also a heap of shit that constantly surprises me with with what he can do with a skateboard.

just look at the way he lands his stuff... never losing speed and poised for the next thing coming up. only a couple of dudes have this natural grace, ruczick(however you spell his name), silas, dan d., carrol. I love watching how they simply compose themselves while they are riding.

Marc: a true genius who will probably hate all of the attention and drink himself to death just to cope with our ceaseless unforgiving gaze.

dude is amazing and i hope that he will keep on progressing even with all of this bullshit added pressure.

I see what direction Thrasher is going in. Daewon wins last year. MJ steals his 6 year old tricks for Fully Flared and wins this year. Interesting. He didn't even have a part besides Fully Flared this year which almost nobody has seen yet (although I have) and wins. It makes no sense. Obviously he rips, that's a given but I guess they just decided to give it to someone who could have won any year since they didn't have a solid canidate. Maybe Jerry Hsu will get his due next year.

Yes, thats a good point Thom and mmm. Its supposed to be an award based on votes. I am a MJ fan and I'm sure his Fully Flared part is sick but the reality is that there is no way the masses could have seen it yet AND got that many votes in for him within a week of the premiere. But I'm not hating at all. I'm glad he got it. And this was a year that no one stood out, for sure. Its all good. The SOTY award is the best thing that can happen to a skater. The Transworld awards are instantly forgotten.

I don't get why people think Drehobl deserved SOTY. He's great, but he just isn't the type of guy you think of in the jock sense that embodies picking one person as best. Speaking of one person- Only Phelps decides SOTY, the voting is just so he can get an idea of reader opinions. So the fact that none of you have seen fully flared doesn't mean a goddamn thing. Duffel will never win something like this because of the shit he said in big brother. Young or not, he fucked himself by saying such fucked up shit.

I'm stoked for MJ, and I'm sure his Lakai part with the whole 21 minutes of useable footage was fuckin insane but Duffel got snubbed again. Corey put out two amazing parts this year (both of which he should have closed the video out), and has always been down for Thrasher especially. His 20+ page article was of the hook! When it comes down to it, Johnson is a fucking legend, and is one of the best of all time.... I just feel he has gotten the recognition already, and Duffel needs some love, the guy is a machine. Enough of me rambling... there are too many good skaters out there to have everyone decide on one. Congrats Marc Johnson!

I just watched Fully Flared and....... I'm gonna have to say Marc Johnson's part was insane. The entire video is insane... too many fucking tricks to download into my head in one sitting. Marc Johnson has been filming multiple video parts in a single year, for YEARS. His part in the Lakai video is the length of THREE. Ryan Sheckler can't do that without giving it up to MTV first. The very fact that Marc can come up with video parts that are long, and STILL amazing - you just HAVE to give it to MJ.

I've seen Fully Flared, and yeah yeah MJ has three parts and goddamn 15 odd minutes of footage. But a lot of that shit is filler. I was at the premiere in Van and his first part didn't get a single fucking cheer. Quantity over quality. If you're basing SOTY solely on best part in Fully Flared, it's gotta be Guy.
