The officer was completely out of line. Instead of warning the “criminal” (the child) before resorting to physical restraint like he was supposed to do according to procedure, he pounced first like an aggressive dog does when they come upon a puppy to show dominance. He pounced on the child without warning. The better alternative was to isolate that kid first in civil disobedience by making sure the other kids were heeding his warnings. Then, if the disobedient kid was mouthing off something worse than ”dude” (more like pig), then the officer may have had a right to approach the kid to escort him by the arm to the more private area next to the car to talk to him about his attitude, only if he had continued the skateboarding. The officer was there to enforce the cities policies regarding skateboarding in that area, not control the child’s attitude. In my humble opinion, citizens are allowed to say whatever they would like to an officer, as long as they are not continuing the action which the cop came to initially enforce and/or threatening the safety officer. The word “dude” or even “pig” do not in any way threaten the safety of the officer or break the law. So, you who defend the actions of this officer, you are demonstrating the oppressive justification of a police state and the loss of our right of freedom of speech. In other words, you’re the oppressor and a moron.

let me get this straight: the kid is skating where he is not supposed to. the cop asks hims to leave. the kid resists. the cops flares up. what if this happened on "your" property and instead of skaters they were bmxers or inliners? cops have a shitty job and people can bag on them all day long except for when they need them. what a thankless job.

I'm a police officer in MA. and I just want to apologize for this individuals actions. This is a startling video to observe. This type of behavior makes me feel uncomfortable. Speaking to a fourteen year old sk8ter in this manner is setting a poor example for so many cops (Constables on Patrol) who would never engage in this type of behavior. Please do not think we are all like this, because most of us are not. Ninety percent of us are hard working family oriented individuals who do this job looking for real criminals and that it is us who work for you. Serving our communities with pride and respect.

well I can't watch HBO cause I don't live in the US...what I meant was: it's always the same.
There were several islamist bombings in Paris in 95 (because of the civil war in Algeria) and I heard the same conspiracy theories then. And I just don't buy'em.
Now it's true cops dont harass skaters as much in Europe, I've experienced it myself when I came to the US. That doesn't mean they will not harass you for no reason at all. Especially if you got the wrong color of skin.
