The Rookies: Grant Taylor
"A classic skate rat"

Posted: May 5, 2010

Grant’s got really good backside ollies and skates with a boned-out stance. I’m partial to goofy-footers; there’s a really rad goofy style that I don’t see in regulars. Ethan Fowler, Donny Barley, Chad Bartie—Grant’s got a cool blend of those styles. He can do great 360 flips and perfect body jars. He has the ability to skate all terrain, and he can cling on a handrail, too, and it looks great. In Debacle, he kickflips this big set of stairs and then ollies a grass patch and a wall and drops 10 feet. Then, of course, he 50-50’s that long, flat rail, where he skips over that gap and grinds the rest. He’s an original, and reminds me of someone I would have skated with growing up. A classic skate rat. —Brian Anderson
