So, the first ever 1080 landed on a skateboard is not by Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Shaun White or the handful of other dudes who have done the 900. It was done by a freakin' 12 year old that most people have not heard of. The footage is right here. Welcome to the next step in the evolution of skateboarding.

Pretty amazing. It still seems like a 900 on a regular vert ramp would be harder. I have no frame of reference though because I doubt I would even grind the coping on a mega ramp and I've never even done a bs air.

Forwards to fakie next time would be super crazy.

I had the same thought, a forwards 1080 will be gnarlier. Yeah, on a smaller vert ramp, a 900 is for sure gnarlier. The question of age and experience and especially socio-economic background which is brought up in the youtube comments I think is a moot point; I don't think anyone can silence just how awesome a 1080 on a skateboard is-- fuck it all, try it yourself, you won't land anything close to that shit.

As for the trick itself, just like Tony Hawk did a forwards 900 so many years ago, it took someone like Bob 10 years to get the fakie 900. The fakie 1080 is definitely the next step, as spinning that extra rotation and coming back in forwards seems like the next logical achievement. Fo sho, the forwards 1080 to fakie landing sounds gnarly, but definitely doable, shit, even this year. I'd like to see it, even by Gator, Frankie Hill, Rob Roskopp, or Per Welinder.

Isn't the mega-ramp the gap jump, and not the quarterpipe?  That's what I thought I was getting when I opened this up...Regardless, this step in the evolution in skateboarding is gross, even if its hard.  The mega-ramp and mega-quarter are gnarly, but I have no interest in watching footage from them.

regarding the 1080, it's rad, and it's not. those are my thoughts.

however...

Gator, Frankie Hill, Rob Roskopp, or Per Welinder.

your selection of skaters is intriguing.

That is what I was thinking dtotherob.  Per Welinder I thought that was a funny a freestyler.
