I received a letter in the mail today from a very small local skateshop. They send me one every year with contest dates, demos, and the like. Well this year was very different. Instead of skate contests and demos, it was chalk full of Longboard races and Longboard hockey. The owners of the shop dont actually skate; they are like 70, and their flamer son (hes not gay, hes actually an alright guy, but dresses in fucking strange clothes with flames on them and shit) who is like 30 something is trying to live the dream of being a skateshop owner vicariously through them.

He MCd the contest last summer and gave me 2nd place, even though i was drunk and didnt do a single flip trick during my entire run. I dont think he knows much about skateboarding, all i did was some manuals. But thats karma. there was this other contest like a year before and i heel varialed the stairs and the only other trick that went down from anyone else was a kickflip. i also heelflip mannyd and nose mannyd a manual pad comparable to flushings. didnt win shit, however, my friend did a bs 360 over the mellowest hip you have ever seen in your life and some how won some wheels. fuckin bullshit.

so anyway, the point of the thread is longboard races and longboard hockey. I just wanted to know if any other towns do this type of shit, or is my city the original gay? Yeah, I realize skateboard racing is old as fuck, but i mean, have you heard of anyone doing them recently? I guess there is some sort of hipster longboard craze going on right now. this post was way too long.

i have heard of some downhill races in recent year. in nyc every summer there is something called the broadway bomb where you start at like 116th and thenrace all the way downtown. i entered a couple year ago with a regular set up while 98% of the people there had long boards. i pushed so hard and held 1st for like 30 blocks until the longboarders started to pass me. by the time i got to 42nd street there were like 10 of them in front of me and i just stopped since i wanted to skate for real and was already getting tired and wouldn't win. the streets weren't blocked off and it is just a free for all through traffic. some dude in front of me slammed into a cab at one point forcing me to ollie his legs. it was fun, but i wouldn't do it again without a cruiser since it isn't fair otherwise. the ground gets gnarly in some places and big soft wheels would come in super handy.

and what is this flushing manual pad you are talking about? the flushing in queens? you mean the mellow hubba that some people use as a manny pad?
