anyone with half a brain and a general understanding of the industry knows what is wrong with it...but it is not what this guy is talking about. he is hung up on ethics and stereotypes and that video made me not care to read his book.

i actually just wrote a blog post about the industry last week: http://elasticback.blogspot.com/2009/05/skateboard-industry-needs-to-change.html

That was a good little article EB. "Since when did you see a basketball player getting mad at some kid that didn't play basketball for wearing a Kobe Bryant jersey or some Jordans." That quote was brilliant my friend. Every time I have been skating with my friends and we see someone who obviously doesnt skate wearing skateboarding brands, we all laugh not even thinking that kid helped the skate industry.

I'm a bit confused, I thought it was gonna be about what was wrong with the industry, but for some reason was about making skateboarding more appealing to parents.

by the way, did this guy say he was a pro? cause that was extra confusing

"It is very incestuous, in other words."
Haha, that's an interesting way to look at it.
On another note, I think skateboarding is just a very young activity. At least when you put it up against the most popular "sports" in America right now.
Soccer - As early as 1000 - 1300's
Basketball - 1891
Football - 1876
Baseball - 1750-ish
Skateboarding - 1950's
Skateboarding is young, and evolving**.

The only reason I care about the industry is that its popularity keeps my local shop in business selling good skateable decks. Not having a local shop sucks, never again, never forget.

Blowing it.

The only reason I care about the industry is because it's millions of people who enjoy doing the same thing I do, whether or not it positively affects what kind of product I'm able to buy.
