Am I the only one on the board that just does not dig Hip Hop?
That said, I do like some PE and I once owned an Ice-T record.

I've always just dug more aggressive / rock / R&B stuff. That and when I think of music I think of musicians, not someone programming beats and rhythms.  Hip hop to me is just plain boring.

I produce some electronic music stuff and I can tell you that, while it may sound simple, programming good beats is hard to do
to each his own though, its hard to appreciate stuff like that if you don't do it at all, I usually find it pretty hard to appreciate guitar solos

I feel the same way about punk rock. I like maybe 3 bands from the Thrasher Readers Top 40. I'm not like a hip hop kid though. I like music that sounds really polished, not that purposely stripped down to guitar, bass and drums pissed off punk music. I like the metals a lot, though.

I'm not too keen on hip hop, the stuff I like is generally feel good hip hop from the 80's and 90's
and stuff like Mos Def or Talib Kweli, and I like some of the jazzy hip hop stuff, but generally don't
really listen to much.  Although the Beastie Boys are straight dope.  and Too Short

you disappoint me, chuck. just because a sampler doesn't have tuning pegs doesn't mean its not a creative tool.

and judging by the current crop of 'rock" artists, who just seem to engage in live sampling of other bands riffs anyway... there's little to no difference anymore.

I don't mind samplers per se'. I just don't dig the hip hop. I don't like new school country, Nu Metal, and Boy Bands either, I'm sure there is plenty more I don't like but those came off the top of my head....

I don't know, I just think about hip hop as using words the same way guitar players use the strings
anyone can hit notes, just like anyone can write rhymes, but it takes someone talented to fit everything together in a creative and cohesive whole that actually leaves you feeling like you experienced something meaningful

case in point:

I think that was boring and typical.. I had to listen to it four times and I was just as bored with it every time. "Niggas?" I'm sorry I hate that word. My niece is Black, anyone calls her that gets a fist in the chops from me. Nothing more lame than hanging out at the bar and hearing people calling each other "niggas." Most of us just look and think ... "for real? Wow!"

Can I ask what was "meaningful" about that song?
