Did anyone see this new promotion?

http://mikevallely.com/2010/05/19/glory-bound-skatepark-tour-2010

Selected Reading:
“MIKE V’s GLORY BOUND SKATEPARK TOUR” will kick off in each market with a “premium ticketing mentoring session” that will allow a limited number of fans to join MIKE V on his tour bus and gain access to the skating legend for a half hour of bonding and Q&A. Anyone who witnessed MIKE V on his recent Zumiez promotional tour (which averaged over 1,500 attendees per market) knows that the athlete‟s exceptional physical abilities on a skateboard can only be outdone by his unique and deep-seated ability to inspire today‟s youth.

Only core skaters think of groups of other skaters in terms of being a "market." That's how you know they love skateboarding.

Jereme Rogers better come out with a new video QUICK if he wants to hang onto the Coolest Guy in Skateboarding title!

cool stuff.

There's a premium ticket package available too, I guess you can hang with him for 30 minutes.

But hey, Ben Raybourn will be there.

Besides, the Hollywood Showdown incident and the embarrassing whining at the BATB were his real low points. Punching a guy at a hockey game is just proper decorum.

Actually, I think a part with street plants and miller flips does rule. Being a self-righteous toolbag who can't relate to the average skater's qualms with shit doesn't rule. 360 flip to indy grab over a launch to launch ramp kicks ass. Making hyper-individualistic claims like your own tour video, however, blows. That guy rules at some skating, but he can suck a nut otherwise if he doesn't learn how to keep his ego in check.

Have you ever hung out with the guy? What makes you so high and mighty that you can call him a "Kook?" I don't understand the lame fucks... of all the shitty people in the world, some people would actually waste their time hating on Mike? I'll say it again.. I got to hang with him for a bit and he was nothing but a good dude. I'm stoked for him.  Dudes got a family and a life...all paid for by the wooden toy. Fuck yeah for him!

I assume Mike  is going to read your post and take a job at some factory so he can save face.  :Smiley Geeze what a sellout...  Wink

I'm just stating my opinion. No, I do not know him (but it appears that I can hang out with him for 1/2 an hour, if I can come up with enough cash...) I'm sure in person he's a nice guy. I know he's a family man, and I'm down with that. My opinion is borne of his seemingly over-inflated ego. The 2 failed board companies (prominently featuring his name as the "brand.") His self glorifying videos (Sponsored, Drive, etc...) among others. Perhaps me calling him a kook was misplaced. Desperate might be more fitting. I can't say for sure if I was a pro in the "twilight" of my career If I would go out with some dignity, or if I would try to clutch at every straw possible. I would like to think the former, but who knows?  Undecided

If he DID read this, I would hope that my opinion would be as meaningless to him as his would be to me...

i kinda feel bad for mike v. obviously his manager is a total kook, booking these things. i don't know how much involvement he has in coming up with this stuff himself, and he is just trying to keep some income coming in...but he has made some of the worst moves in his career. but so goes the life of a disposable hero...they have their glory days then are left to their own devices. a typical pro skater is uneducated and ill-prepared for life out of the limelight, so whether it is mike v, ryan sheckler, or the next in line (chaz ortiz?), they will continue to make bad decisions. only a few will actually make better decisions, using their celebrity to keep money coming in...like tony hawk (who has made his fair share of bad decisions too, but overall has remained respectable). so while i would not call make v a kook and can't attest to his personality (i don't care how nice of a guy he is), he has lost a lot of respect that he used to have because of bad business decisions. perhaps i would have done the same, couldn't say for sure, but as a celebrity, you are free game for criticism. there is a reason you can't be sued for trashing talking celebrities after all.

I think it's mighty bizaar that skateboarding has gotten to this point at all.  Good or bad.

The word "bizaar" is so right on so many levels.

A little bit biz, a little bit bazaar, and I little bit bizarre.
